Wireless, physical throttle for JMRI?
I currently operate my shelf layout using a Raspberry Pi 3b running JMRI, which is connected to a SPROG III. I wirelessly connect to the RPi3 and control the trains using the Engine Driver app on an old Android phone.
But, what I *really* want is a physical throttle, with a speed-control knob, that will drive the trains wirelessly through JMRI. Does anyone know of such a throttle?
Or, I guess one could have some kind of phone cradle with a knob, which connects to the phone physically or via Bluetooth.
JMRI tracking trains through blocks
I am using JMRI Panel Pro on my layout. As it stands now, my dispatcher moves a marker around the panel for each train. With Five or six trains at a time on the railroad, it can be easy to lose one. Has anyone used JMRI to automatically move an icon around as a train goes from one block to another? I have detection on each block using NCE BD20s and AIUs. These activate indicator tracks, changing tracks from white to red. The JMRI help page refers to block tracking but never fully explains how to implement it. Any ideas?

Which Consisted Loco First?
Now I know there will be many thoughts on this matter.
My preference is too physically lead with the slowest 'speed matched' loco followed by the faster consisted locos. Then the MU consist number is the lowest road number in the consist.
What your thoughts on this?
Anyone using webcams in the train room?
After recommending that Rob in Texas consider adding a webcam to the club I began to think about doing the same. There are a lot of inexpensive video monitors that are either usb or wireless connected but few talk about compatibility with apps like Skype.
Is anyone using a webcam to share or monitor the layout?
Does the pan & tilt feature work as advertised?
What would you chose to allow an interactive experience as Skype provides?
Thanks!

eliminating the car reserves in JMRI
I would like to eliminate the reserves that are listed at various locations. I can not get certain trains to move cars because the reserve for that spur has a large number listed in the reserve column.
I tried resetting the car moves to zero with no success. I reviewed the JMRI Operations manual. I tried going on the Yahoo users group but that was an exercise in frustration.
There must be a simple solution but it eludes me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated....Ken
How do you clean your turnout's points?
Lately, I've been using blender sticks that are made of paper. They can be sharpened to a point with a pencil sharpener. I just soak the tip in alcohol.

Station arrangements
On another forum, a question came up on what the typical track arrangements were at a midwestern town.
Dirty Rails
Recently, I read a letter to the editor of a print magazine that questioned why a club layout suffered from dirty rails. The editor offered cleaning solutions, but no help regarding why the rails might be dirty. IMO, no help at all.
Poor conductivity or ‘dirty rails’ is caused by four sources: Rail Composition, Environment, Rolling Stock, and Maintenance.

Tis the season to revisit sessions on Stonehammer
I have no idea how to switch prototypically, but I winged it so to speak hoping for some feedback. Keep in mind, my steam locos have no functioning front couple, which is something I have to address some day.

Freight Car Routing Project finished
I have now submitted my final project report for my TM470 Router Open University project. 11,000 words in the report body and 22,000 overall including the JavaScript code and my project blog.
