The grand quatering discussion

I'm starting a new thread to discuss the importance of quartering steam locomotive drivers, both prototype and model.  Pet theories and mechanical realities are welcome to meet and hash out their differences here!  I'll post more, but I wanted a quick introduction to get the thread started.

Daisy Chain Freight Car List - anyone interested?

I had created a thread a while back, on trading engine decals to give my layout and others something different, and also provide forigin power to each others layout.  I had a few interested people, and look forward to having some unique engines in time on my layout.

Does anyone know if an On30 loco can be converted to On3?

I'm looking into if it is possible to successfully convert On30 Steam Locomotives (like the ones Bachmann makes) to On3?

Any thoughts?  Has anyone successfully done this?  How difficult is it?

CN 0-6-0

after reading the articles on how to scratch build a steam locomotive inspired me to take my first locomotive (a Bachmann 2-6-0(no, not one of the sound ones)) and rebuild it into either a CN e-10 class 2-6-0 or 0-6-0 (unknown class). Both have advantages and disadvantages,

the 2-6-0: for- there is one on display a few blocks from my house so information is easy to aquire. against- would need to find large spoked wheel lead truck and completely rebuild the boiler and valve gear

Lincoln Funeral Train

I'm a history buff and especially interested in the American Civil War. Does any know if any manufacturer is planning the release of a Lincoln Funeral Train set? I would love to add this to my collection and I'm sure there are others with a similar interest.

I should add that my reason for asking, other than my interest in the Civil War, is that 2015 will mark the 150th anniversary of the Lincoln assassination and I think that this would be a very collectable sets.

Flattening chemically-warped plastic

I picked up a few hopper cars (Bowser 100T types) from a hobby shop's "consignment" shelf.  While I definitely need the car type for my operations, the problem with these cars is that a previous owner used some kind of chemical to glue in the otherwise press-fit weight retainers.  (Probably Testor's cement.  Heck, I used to use that stuff for everything myself!  SPARINGLY, in my case; not so much with these hoppers...)
