Loco Shorts out - Decoder Problem?

I am having a problem with a locomotive that I can't reason out, and I'm hoping more experienced minds will have seen it before, or be able to help me track down the issue.

I have an older lifelike GP9 I purchased used. It has a qsi Quantum diesel sound decoder (from what looks like a factory install).

When the unit has it's direction reversed, it shorts out the entire DCC (NCE) system. It has had this problem since I owned it, and it had the same issue on my Easy DCC system, so I do not believe it is related to the control system.

Looking for discontinued Scalecoat I & II Paint colors to repaint Loco's OR find alternative!!

I'm looking for Scalecoat paint in NYC Pacemaker Red and Trailer Train Yellow and it appears neither color is made my them anymore.  I've searched online with no luck, but I was hoping perhaps there is a local hobby shop somewhere that still has a jar or two.  If there is, can you please PM me their contact information (email/phone number) so I might be able to purchase it from them.  I need those two colors to repaint the SD40-2 units I'm acquiring.

Best HO Scale Diesel?

Hi Everybody!

Before I open up what may be a can of worms, I should give you a little background.

My latest desire is to model contemporary BC Rail in HO scale. Yup, my proto-freelance layout assumes BC Rail did not get gobbled up by CN in 2004, but continued to thrive and acquire some massive modern diesel power. Also need some CN motive power to go with the BCR gear.

Looking for USRA 0-6-0 Switch engine

I am looking for a USRA 0-6-0 switching engine. My top choice of features include: Made by Weaver or Atlas, O-gauge, 2-rail, CB&Q marking.

I can bend of some of these requirements.

True LineMP36?

Hi has anyone heard anything about the True Line Trains MP36's?  I had seen them advertised in MRH, which piqued my interest in getting a Metrolink version.  I contacted them about pre-ordering and was told they'd send a pre-order form to my email a couple months ago.  Never got the email, so I emailed them back.  Never got a response.  The website has said for ages "Release mid. 2012".

wiring ditch lights

Good day to all of you,

I am kind of stuck with this project.  I am not very good at electrical et electronic stuff, but I,m willing to learn so I am turning to you all, once more, for help.

I want to add ditch lights to a loco I have but my problem is that I'm not sure how to go about for what I want to do.  I have a decoder with only two available functions and I'd like to wire the lights so that both front lights are on at the same and the same for the rear ones, meaning that they won't flash and one wire is needed for each direction.

Custom painters?

I got some 6 Ho pullman sleepers.  What I really want to find is someone to put a base coat of IC brown on them for me, but without breaking the bank (one place I found wanted 240$ per car).  Anyone got any recommendations?

What is the best way to have Custom Painted SD-40-2 as well as an SD-40T-2

I would like to custom paint three SD-40-2 units for a proto-freelanced railroad.  I am not familiar with the new units available such as those from BLI, Athearn R-T-R, and I believe Atlas as well.  These all look to be wonderfully detailed units and there lies in the problem.  How difficult would it be to remove al lthe detail parts to properly repaint these units and reattach them to the shell.  OR should I find three old Blue Box Athearn SD-40-2 and upgrade the grills, handrails, etc?  Which would be more work?  Which is less risk?

ALCO and MLW models

Hello all,

I'm interested for some Greek diesel locos from Alco. The model  numbers according to wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ALCO_diesel_locomotives) are DL537/ DL543 and MLW MX627/MX636. I'm wondering if I can find in US e-shops the undecorated chassis and bogies of these locos.

thanks

Nikos
