Locos and rolling stock

How are you modeling lifting and peeling paint on freight cars

I was sitting on my commuter train (West Coast Express) after it arrived in Vancouver BC this morning and looked out to see this rather filthy ratty looking grain car:

B&M PS-2 Covered Hoppers

I have three Atlas B&M PS-2, 2003 cu. ft. Covered Hoppers - 5520, 5540 and 5541. The 1959 B&M Summary of Equipment shows the numbers are correct, a build date of 1956 and their having been delivered with roller bearing trucks.  My question is what color would the trucks have been when delivered?  The Atlas ones are black.  I cannot tell from my 1989 photos of two of these cars with 33 years of weathering.

Thanks

Using IPad to photograph rolling stock

I have been working on my weathering techniques recently and taking pictures of the progress has been frustrating as the photos are way off color balance and when I attempt to correct that with my limited set of tools (and even more limited knowledge) the gains made in correcting the color is offset by grainy, contrasty and generally the appearance that I used child's crayons to do the weathering.

How to tell if Loco has the DCC plug

When looking online at locomotives the description doesn't really tell you whether or not the DC engine has the 8/9 pin DCC plug?

I tend to like both Atlas, some Athearn and Walthers engines, but the Walthers description doesn't tell you almost like they want you to buy the DCC model over the DC model.  I have a couple of Walthers Trainline GP9M's that I will have to hardwire when the time comes.

Athearn Amtrak p40 ?

Does anyone know who makes some good after market side mirrors? I'm working on an Athearn Amtrak p40 amd want to change out the side mirrors on the cab but haven't been able to find any. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Best source for Rapido reservation?

I'm looking to reserve some of Rapido's new RDCs. Who can recommend a responsible US Rapido dealer who's reliable and offers a reasonable discount? MRH supporters preferred, if possible.

TIA.

1950s German/Austrian HO Scale Cars and Locomotives

I have been going through bins of HO model trains that I have been storing for 30+ years.  Included in the bins are a bunch of German/Austrian trains that my dad got when he was stationed in Germany in the mid-1950s -  locomotives, freight cars and passenger cars, mostly Kleinbahn brand, but some Fleischmann and Marklin.

I took pictures of everything and sent it to Trainz.com and talked to Carlie there - they say they will look at them and give me a sense of what they might be worth and if they can sell them.

HO buffer for steam loco tender in passenger service -- are they made?

Steam locos in passenger service have a buffer on the rear of the tender to control the car movement. Sometimes the buffer is included on a brass model but often not. I'm looking for one for an ATSF 3700-class 12,000 gallon tender but can't find any. There are tons of brass accessory parts for steam locos but I can't even find a hint of an HO buffer -- not even a mention of a long out-of-production one.

Any 3D Designers with Printer Out There for N-Scale

I  am having a hard time getting anyone to respond to my queries about building something in 3D for me. I have tried several times to contact people who sell thru Shapeways without any luck.  I never get a response. So I am looking for some help.

Because N-scale does not have a DCC ready Santa Fe style 4-8-4, I am in the process of merging the guts of a Con-Cor DCC ready 4-8-4 GS4 with the shell of a Bachmann 4-8-4 Northern.
