EMF setting problem on Rapido LRC locomotive

I have a Rapido LRC locomotive I'm trying to get running smoothly.

Several times I've done what Rapido calls the "awesome slow speed thingy" in the manual (setting CV54=0, and the pushing F1). After the most recent run of this, the LRC has these CV readings:

How do you remove the shell from a Rivarossi Krauss Maffei?

I recently acquired the Rio Grande version of Rivarossi's Krauss Maffei diesel -- a powered unit and a dummy.  The motor in the powered unit needs to be cleaned and lubricated.  I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the shell.  It may simply pop off, but I'm afraid to force it and break something.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Working front couplings on steam locos

A question from the UK American Narrow Gauge modelers. A number of friends use the Bachmann, BLI, AMS and MMI products and a issue has been raised over here about working knuckle couplings on the front of locos. All the above manufacturers fit non-working couplings at the correct height which is no good for switching.

Does anyone know of a simple fix for this problem. I might add some of the guys use the Bachmann standard of HO knuckles set at the HO height whereas some of us use Kaydee 0n3 knuckles set at 0n3 height.

Removing Trucks from an Athearn Blue Box GP40-2?

I've got a HO scale Athearn Blue Box GP40-2 locomotive, which I'm using as the basis for an On30 diesel conversion.  To this end, I'll need to make some modifications to the chassis, most of which are drilling and cutting.

As such, I'd like to remove the trucks and motor while making these modifications, in order to avoid having metal shavings getting into the mechanism.

Tacoma Belt Line Locomotive - are there similar paint schemes in the US or Canada?

Hello there,h

I spotted this loco in Scott Williamsons article...

http://www.trainweb.org/rosters/TMBL921.html  ...

and was wondering if this or similar paint scheme was copied from other loco paint schemes. I am wondering of the source of the following locos scheme ...

There are a few paint schemes here in Australia copied from US schemes

San Juan Car Co Short Caboose

When assembling the SJCC Short Caboose I realized I had lost the shutoff valve that goes on the line from the train line and the air reservoir. I was going to just continue construction but then I noticed this casting and I realized it was the same setup but in one piece (and it had the shutoff valve). So my question is, is this piece in there for something else or is it for this part of the caboose, and if it isn't why would you have to build one and have the other one a one piece casting.

Loco Manufacturer Question

Hi guys I have a question about german manufacturers.  I met a guy who said he has a train that was passed down from his grandfather who immigrated to the US from germany.  He said the train is still in the boxes and only went in a circle which he had setup to go around a christmas tree.  The strange part is that he states there is swastikas on the side of the train and cars.  He also said that his grandparents were not Nazis lol.  I told him I would like to see it as he is trying to get more info about it.

Metal wheels

There is a thread on Metal couplers... so I figured I would start one on metal wheels, and trucks.

Whenever I get a chance, I replace my plastic wheels with metal, and my plastic trucks with metal spring trucks. I just like the feel, the look, and how well a car operates with metal, instead of plastic.

BLI SW1500 Decoder Wiring

I picked up a BLI Paragon 2 Decoder with hopes of using it in another sw1500 but the wires coming from the harnesses aren't labeled well. Does anybody have a diagram for wiring on of these decoders? Or even some good pictures of one of these decoders still in a loco?

S Scale ALCO C420

Introducing S Scale's only ALCO Century series locomotive. Here are some photos of D&H ALCO C420 no. 404 fresh out of the paint shop. The locomotive was scratch built using brass and styrene shapes. The cab, long and short hoods, draft gear, end ladders, and other components were 3D printed. Commercially available drive parts and truck side frames were also used.
