Transfer Cabooses (Cabeese)
I've long been a fan of transfer cabooses. Somewhere in my files I have LOTS of pics of this big variety of cars. And I have a number of them as well as kits for them, as well as flat cars, and other cars that might be kit-bashed into them.
So it was with an admiring eye that I spotted this one at a train show this weekend. Had to have it, whether it was prototypical or not.
C&O Greenbrier Hybrid by Broadway Ltd
I just saw a review of the new C&O Greenbrier by Broadway Ltd.
Being a C&O fan, and having had one of these in brass a number of years ago, had me interested.
LED size for brass steamer headlight castings?
- Has anyone used tiny Surface Mount LEDs in brass engine headlights?
- What size?
- Instead of SMDs, do you prefer standard encased LEDs?
Brass engines usually have brass headlight casting shaped like shallow teacups. I have tried to fit 3mm LEDs without success. I was able to drill and mount an 0402 LED but it was too tiny to be noticed in a standard lit room.
If you are not familiar with SMDs, they are Surface Mount Devices. The model number is the size.
Repowering old Riverossi 4-8-4
Hi fellow hobbiests
I have a Rivarossi 4-8-4 (UP No 844) with what I'm told has a 3 pole motor. I don't know the year of manufacture, only that is old and in good condition and runs great on DC and a DCC conversion is what I have in mind for it.
Content of this hopper?
I have this hopper a weathered using a photo of the prototype,
but I have no idea what was in these cars and where its destinations would be.
Lowering Bachmann On30 Freight Cars
Hard to believe that I bought my first Bachmann On30 Wonderland Express train-set 20 years ago. Wow, twenty years ago.
Have a "what-I-did" about lowering the Bachmann On30 freight cars to eliminate the funky draft gear look.
Diaphragms
Hello everyone,
I am looking for recommendations on heavyweight and lightweight HO passenger car diaphragms. Detail and price are important concerns but functionality is not.
Thanks.
40' vs 50' boxcars for carrying lumber (late 60s - early 70s)
Hi all,
Following help i received in a previous topic with respect to industry choices, i ended up choosing a furniture factory as my final industry on my layout. After doing some reading around i am wondering if for 1968-1970 i should be using 40' or 50' boxcars for inbound lumber loads.
Outbound will be in 50' double doors anyway, so maybe i should homogenize and have 50' cars for all the spots?
I have read this excellent thread below which more or less covers the same question but for the 40s/50s era.
Which Decoder
I am finally making turning the corner and going DCC with my new layout. That said I have a question.....I have a Bachmann DCC Ready 3 truck shay I purchased probably around 2004 or 2005. So I am wondering what would be the correct decoder to use for the loco? Having never actually seen a prototype shay in operation I have no real idea what they should sound like.
Union Pacific EMD DD35 A unit scale drawings
Does anyone on this list have a source for scale drawings of the EMD DD35 A units? Any of the old model railroad magazines have something I've missed?
As popular as these units were I, for some reason, have been unable to find any drawings/plans.
Searched every web site I can think of with no success. I'm sure I'm missing something so any help would be appreciated.
Got an old Athearn Blue Box DD40 awaiting destruction and reconstruction.
