Locos and rolling stock
A decoder with a sudden short circuit. Is this possible?
I have a Walthers HO scale locomotive with a factory installed sound decoder. It was purchased about 15 months ago and used a few times. I got it out of storage a week ago. It worked normally for about 10 feet and then I shut it down because someone arrived at the house. A couple of days later I powered it back up and it shorted out immediately. I tried other sections of the layout and it still indicated a short. Other DCC sound locos work fine on the layout.
That time I saw a 4-8-8-4 as a DPU!
Somewhere in eastern Washington and couldn't believe my eyes! A 4-8-8-4 as a DPU! Not to mention perfect weather and beautiful scenery. If I hadn't seen it myself I would have thought it was a pair of kpack's models.
Weighting Cars In Quantity
I want to add weight to almost all of my fleet as well as many of my removable open top loads. (I want to "Super weight" the rolling stock fleet, as well as have "loads" that actually add weight.)
In your experience, what are the cheapest ways of accomplishing thist?
Purchasing new flat washers in bulk? Visit the tire shop and ask for old tire weights? Fishing weights? All of the above?

Help me identify this 4-4-2
Anyone know who made this locomotive? I found it in a junk box, drivers were severely corroded and the drive rods were siezed due to corrosion, I took my wire wheel to it and knocked all that junk off. It now rolls smoothly.
railroad-owned highway trailers of the 1950s
In the mid and late 1950s, many railroads purchased small fleets of highway trailers for Trailer of Flat Car (TOFC) service (also called piggyback.) Initially, many were 36 or 38' long. Later, 40-foot trailers became common. Photos of these are not common. Here's a place to share some photos and rosters.
Rusty roof with oils and acrylics - where did I see that video?! FOUND IT!
I "recently" saw a video where a guy used oil paint on the top of a boxcar then later came back and "filled" in with acrylic paint. The rust effect was incredible but dang it I don't know where I saw it!
I've searched my YouTube history and searched via MRH.
Does the technique strike a chord with anyone?!

Replacing traction tyres
Does anyone know a way of replacing traction tyres? A bought a new BLI steam loco and after a couple of laps and the traction tyres were wore and split ..im not sure why. BLI sent me another pair but how does one put them on?

Does anyone have any suggestion for better horn sound? These have the most cheesy horn sound I've ever heard from a modern DCC loco. Certainly the real Centipede horns did not sound like this. The horn sounds like 1950's Lionel.
What color is this covered hopper?
I found this B&W picture on the internet. Does anyone know what color this car actually is? The body appears to be white or very light gray. The lettering may be red since there were other Evans 4780 cars in Nebraska that were red on white, but that is no guarantee.
