Locos and rolling stock

Converting On30 to S?

I had one of those oddball ideas today, and I'm almost afraid to even bring it up...

Another 12 inches to the foot scratch build

The Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington Railroad is growing, and currently only has 2 steam locomotives--only one running.  Number 9 is being restored, and they're working on getting number 11 built.

The railroad is doing well, growing, and adding another yard, with a turntable and a roundhouse on the agenda.  Also, both its locos are the smaller 0-4-4 Forneys; the one running is very small.  Adding a "big" 2-4-4 will give the ability to handle longer trains.

Stripping and repainting...

Hi all,

I have managed to get a Bachmann S-4 in SP tiger stripes from a guy here in the UK. My goal is to repaint it in scarlet and grey to make it fit my era.

Apart from disassembling the engine, how do I continue?
I have learned to work with decals, just need to get them.

How do I strip the original paint off? Seen that this is N scale and a rather small switcher, is hand painting after masking off doable?

Proposed 1:1 scratchbuilt steam engine

A proposal to build a Pennsy T1 4-4-4-4 steam engine is in the process of gathering donations to build the 5550 T1.

This would be the second engine built from scratch that I know of.

 The first was this one.

And another in Britain.

Wheel size

Hi all.

I got my hands on some US rolling stock, and I am still waiting for more to arrive to Portugal, for me. Well, I always liked  US diesels, and since 2008, when I first saw Joe Fugate's Siskiyou line DVD's, I knew that I had to have some SP and Cotton Belt stock.

And because I don't need some super detailed cars, and I think that with some good weathering things can get interesting enough, I purchased some Roundhouse and Athearn BB kits. Bought also some Kadee #5 couplers, but I don't like the plastic wheels.

One for the GN fans

Sorry for the poor quality -- shot from my Windows phone a bit before 6 a.m., north end of Balmer Yard. Someone at one of our car shops has been having fun! The well-ballasted tracks in the mid-foreground are Main 2 and Main 1 a few feet timetable west of CP 23rd Avenue.

Mehano brand ???

I have never heard of "Mehano" brand of HO locos or rolling stock.

Can anyone fill me in on this brand?  Is it a quality brand name or just run of the mill stuff?

Accumate in N scale!

Hi folks,
Contrary to popular opinion, I am getting rid of all my Microtrains couplers on my rolling stock and instead standardise on Accumates and McHenry as secondary choice (oh that pesky spring but a good looking coupler).
I detest the slinky effect, even in very short trains and find them generally unreliable and overengineered.

I know a lot of folks are ditching the Accumate in favour of the MTL's so if anyone got any lying around, happy to take them off your hands!

What was used as a Milk car/train in the 50's amd 60's

I'm modeling a creamery with an ice house and was wondering what the railroads used to haul milk in the 50's and 60's.

I know that some RR's used combines.
