Locos and rolling stock

Diesel Locomotive, Primer Paint Color

Modeling a Missouri Pacific GP35 using prototype photos as a guide, (sample below). Along the handrails paint has worn away from years of use.

Although the worn areas on the handrails have a "orange like" color, my thinking is this is exposed primer not rust. (Could be wrong about this)

Opinions, on what model paint color I could use to get this look?

Missouri Pacific GP-18 added to the fleet today

I just finished a P2k GP-18 today.  When I worked for the Mopac I saw these locomotives were all over the system.  Mopac owned 151 of these locomotives so they had the largest fleet in the world.  So if you model the Mop you really can't ignore not having one on the layout.  Towards the end of the 1970's many were found in this faded Jenks Blue with several Mopac signature additions.  Traded in Alco FA trucks, spark arresters, snow plows for local service.

Passenger coaches

Hi all.

I really struggle sometimes with the rolling stock, but I trust on MRH forum to get some needed help ! :) :)

So, I have a desire to have two or three heavyweight passenger coaches, to make them run on the layout with Lehigh and New England steamer I have. Although my layout is in 1980, I am applying rulle #1 - "It's my layout", and I want to have fun with it.

I have been searching on eBay but with no luck.

Who makes nice heavyweight coaches in H0? What RR companies can I use to be more "correct"?

European Couplers (HO)

Question for the European crowd:

I'm interested in modeling a small British outline layout; basically a loop with a runaround and couple of sidings and interchange track.  The goal would be to allow for some shunting of wagons.  Looking at the British/European wagons, they come with a variety of coupling systems.

The most common (that I see) seem to be the Hook and Loop couplers.  How well do these work for shunting operations?  (They really look "ugly" to me though ...)

Bowser H9 valve gear for MDC 2-8-0

Hello everyone

I would like to ask for some advice, please. The May 2002 Model Railroader has a good article upgrading a MDC 2-8-0, the picture at the beginning of the article shows the Loco with valve gear but there's nothing in the body of the article that explains how this was done. On another forum someone suggested that the author used the Bowser H9 valve gear kit, it seem that you would need the cross heads and valve gear hanger as well? I have three MDC kits that I'd like to do this conversion to so any help or advice would be very welcome!

Broadway Limited N scale Alco PA running issues

Hey Guys I just bought this Broadway Limited Alco PA and while running it I discovered a few issues that maybe somebody can provide suggestions.  Last month I also bought a BL F7B that seems to run awesome on my layout with no problems.  The Alco on the other hand seems to start through a turnout and then just stops, restarts, and then continues down the line.  Also there is one corner that it likes to derail for some reason.  I am scratching my head on why it is doing this when I have no issues with the other broadway limited loco or any of my other Atlas locos.

How is this part called?

Hi @ all,

As Swiss, I'm curious how you call the part I've circled in the attached picture.
I need it and don't know what I have to look for. frown

It's a "bridge" between two locos, correct?

Thanks for help.

The update has mounting better trucks that are from the era:

HO scale Metal wheels

In the past I have always use IRM 33'' metal wheels on my rolling stock. My question is, has anyone ever used the Tangent brand of metal wheel, and if so how do you compare them and how comparable are they to the IRM brand?

HO Scale Bachmann Shay truck assemblies in stock with metal gears

FYI loggers- Not sure how long they've been available but Bachmann has the complete Shay truck assemblies back in stock, and they are equipped with metal gears instead of the old plastic splitters.
