Paper roads...

Just watched the May 4 MRH Youtube video that shows Cambell Rice creating streets based on watercolor paper. looks like a nice method. My question, though, is what about mating up the sections. Won't you get a seam line? On a concrete road, that perhaps could be disguised as a expansion joint, but asphalt roads don't have those.

Thoughts or ideas?

Thanks.

Installing Windows

I was very fortunate to be able to remove the window frames from my used roundhouse,...without damaging them. I'm not sure how they were originally put in, but it appeared to be just some sort of minimal tacking method.

So now I am looking for advice on the best way to re-install them once I finishing painting the interior walls, etc?

Reader request - Barnhart log loader?

We received this request from a reader by snail mail, so we're posting it here to see if any of you have an answer for them.

Do you have any pictures of a Barnhart log loader? Even an old picture of it? I have looked all over and haven't found anything.

Please let me know!

Also do you have any info on modeling an HO logging operation, info on things like Shays or log cars?

Modelling canals and railroads

Historically, there are many places in the US where canals and railroads were connected geographically or economically. Besides the C&O canal, recently mentioned elsewhere, And of course there's the Delaware and Hudson Company, where an early and successful canal was gradually replaced by a  long-lived railroad.

There are a number of lesser-known places in the northeastern US where railroads were built on the towpaths of former canals.

British layout with canal lock - 10 or 20 years ago

I'm wanting to find a layout article that appeared in Model Railroader magazine 10 or 20 years ago. It featured a layout modeling a British scene. The highlight (as far as I'm concerned) was a model of a canal with a lock-- the water was higher on one side than the other. It's the only such model I've ever seen.

I kept it in my "inspiration" file for a long time, but lost track over the years.

Can anyone help me track this down?

Static grass application problems

I'm having problems applying static grass. I'm using 7 mm and 12 mm grass using a "Static King " applicator. Grass does not stand up... only lays flat, I'm grounded and wet. What am I doing wrong?

Asphalt vs Concrete roads through time/eras (Pasadena late 60s question)

Hello everyone,

I am trying to figure out if some key boulevards/avenues in Pasadena in the late 60s were surfaced with asphalt or poured concrete. (Colorado boulevard in particular...)

Evergreen & Plastruct Plastics

I wish I had a whole bunch of Evergreen & Plastruct plastic shapes, strips, and sheet materials,...for kitbashing, etc.

Its difficult to order special size pieces as one, two, etc at a time, and I'm sure shipping is a killer on such small (and often long) sizes.

Does anyone else have a good source for such product?
