Modeling with Atlas piers
I'm cleaning up and cleaning out the junk. These were in one of my infamous bargain boxes and I am wondering what I can do with them? These are the graduated piers from an Atlas set. Although intended to have track inserted in the tabs on the top, I know there are virtually unlimited kitbashing opportunities.
Since these are probably in the hands of almost every modeler out there, what have you done with yours?

fixing Diamond Scale Turntable?
I have a 134 foot Diamond Scale turntable I purchased a number of years ago from an estate sale being sold off at the Timonium train show. It was all in a big box and upon cursory inspection everything looked in good order. I left it in that original box for a number of years until it be brought out for installation on my new layout.
Finally getting some scenery "freshened" and finalized.
About an 8' section of the layout has had basic scenery for quite awhile waiting for me to get back to it. In the last few weeks I started getting more trees ready and finally put static grass and weeds on the neglected area. Figured while I was there that it would be an opportune time to add some color to the rock castings as they have faded a little over the years. Here's what it looks like now.

Any ideas about the best way to use a grey wash to tone down a painted backdrop?
Painting a backdrop is clearly not like painting a picture. For one thing it is 75 feet long and paint must be mixed in enough quantities to cover a large area. I'm finishing up my backdrop and as anticipated it is a brighter yellow-green than one would like for a backdrop. If it was a painting, I'd just make a slightly blueish grey wash and apply it gradually to the area I wanted to tone down. I'd let gravity keep it from running. Not possible with a backdrop. I'll need to spray it on with an airbrush or mist it so lightly that
How to overbuild a bridge module ( ette ).
As some of you may remember I negotiated a closet trade with the House CFO and acquired space for a 2' by 10' yard. Bench work was installed with a 1" foam top and work stalled.
The small, 8' by 8', temporary layout is just out side the closet wall, 5'' actually, and some engineering needed to be done to connect the two. A tunnel through the closet wall will be required.
The space:
Foam core tha snap cuts like styrene
I was at walmart when I saw them taking down foam core signs. Of course they gave them to me. When I starting using one they were hard to cut — but amazingly, when scored they snapped like styrene. Very useful Easy to use.
Anyone know hat this product is? Where to get it?

The future of 3D printing
Several years (at least) off but wow, think of the possibilities once it moves into the mass market!
Landform planning and vertical compression
I guess this post is mostly observation, with a bit of a lament thrown in.
Although I was diligent in my track planning and planning for the type, footprint and location of structures, roads, etc., I realize that I mostly paid attention to the spacing and compression in the horizontal plane, and pretty much skipped over thinking in detail about the vertical plane.
