Scenery and structures
Backdrops , those of 2 to 3 feet tall
All,
Has anyone come up with a lightweight, thin, easy to cut and/or splice backdrop material that can be painted?
I was looking for something to bridge between the bench work on my upper level, 2 ft to 3 ft, to the ceiling tile. My first thought 1/8 inch hardboard. But I'm certainly open to more ideas that I have not considered.
Thanks!
Modeling dirt
A friend of mine dug silt out of a neighbors gutter that was being replaced. He sifted and baked it, then used it in a yard. This silt/dirt is exactly the color I'm trying to replicate. Does anyone know of a supplier of dirt or a color of grout that would be match? Scenic express sells dirt but not this color. I'm not very good with colors, since I'm red-green colorblind.
Thanks.

Static neg ion generator on Amazon
I was searching for some scenery materials and came across this for a DYI static grass applicator. Thought I’d pass it on to the group.

This is a small video of a contest winning modules in HO scale of an European model made by a well know belgian modeler.
Fresh White Glue when Applying Static Grass?
I’m at the Amherst/Springfield show. I was discussing the best technique for applying static grass and a vendor said always use fresh white glue. In all my years of modeling I have never heard this before.
I would be interested any comments on this subject.

Artifacts Showing in Plastic Roof Panels
In building the Walthers HO scale roundhouse, I find most of the roof panels exhibit artifacts which defy all attempts to cover with paint. Photos are attached.
The patterns are repeated at the same location on both sides of the roof panel. I'm tempted to sand the areas but like sanding some softwoods, the wood's grain structure doesn't disappear but is actually accentuated. I seek guidance for a method to make these blemishes disappear.
Thanks very much for your assistance !!
Zip texture problem
Hi- I am trying to apply Zip Texturing to my scenic base and am having a strange problem.
1. I am following the techniques described in the MRH Sept/Oct 2010 article by Joe Fugate. I am using the same materials and the same mixture formulations as described there.
2. My scenic base is the mixture of patching plaster, cement, and vermiculite described by Joe. It has completely dried and has been covered with two coats of flat latex paint which has completely dried. The surface is sealed.

What are the "most popular" sizes/types of Strips & Sheets from Evergreen and Plastruct?
I am planning on a small expansion on what I offer for sale at Train Shows primarily in the Western/Central NY area. There are no hobby shops in the area that I am aware of that sell either product line, which is why I am adding these items to my inventory. The trouble is I only have a 4' tall,x 2' wide "panel" to display them on, so I can't offer all the sizes (though my customers will be able to custom order any size they need). I would like feedback from those of you who often purchase Styrene Strips and Sheets what types, styles, and sizes do you
