Large cement plant ideas
Gang,
I am working on the spline sub-roadbed as I am writing this.
If you read my posts, you know this is the site for a large cement manufacturer. Most all of their raw materials, including coal for the kilns is delivered by rail. What I need help with are suggestions on where to locate the various tracks.
Estimating amount of ballest needed - HO Scenic Express
Getting ready to order supplies for the track work. Just looking for a rough idea how much track a 1/2 gallon (64 oz) of #40 would do in HO?
I really wanted to try some paver base this time but can't find any locally that is the right color or looks good.
Thanks
Steve
Gluing Styrene to Homasote
Got a friend that needs to do that. I didn't have an answer for him, so thought I'd run it past y'all.
May have been asked before, but if so, never saw it nor paid no mind to it 'cause it wasn't something I was going to be doing anytime soon.
SO...
What say ye, oh wise ones?

Need someone to print a sprial staircase for a C & O coal Station
I am in the process building the 500 ton coaling station at Handley yard and it has some unique features. One of them being a spiral staircase going up the side of an open frame coal hoist.
Weathering Metal Siding Buildings
Anyone have any ideas on how to weather a metal siding building so that the paint appears to be old and chalky in appearance. I'm not looking for rust features rather the way that paint with age will take on a dull color and look to be chalky. I'm trying to replicate the building siding in this photo. Tried dull coat but it just takes away the shine.
Suggestions to get a clean cut on 0.5mm aluminum sheet please
I have some 0.5mm aluminum sheet I need to cut and have clean cuts. The sheet is 9” x 12” and I need to cut a piece 1.25” x 2.5” so it isn't not like it's small pieces to work with. Since it's on the thin side I would think there has to be a way similar to scoring styrene and snapping it.
So, before I reinvent the wheel, I thought I would see what everyone says
Thanks

Cutting Tubes to Create 90s and 45s
Hope all are safe and well!
Working on a heavily kitbashed project right now and I have come to a point in the project where I need to start cutting and gluing Evergreen 3/8 tube to create 90 and 45 degree bends.
This is industrial pipe, on a steel mill so these will not be smooth bends rather bends made up of 22.5 angle cuts and so on for various angles.
Anybody have a trick in there kitbasher arsenal?
Thanks,
Bob

Construction Cranes, models and images please
Back when I first re-entered the hobby, the modular concept was really ramping up. Folks where constructing modules with all sorts of individual themes. One that came to my mind was a powerplant scene/module. I had written,...
The power plant subject came up on another thread just recently, and that is what prompted me to look back for this posting. I just don't recall seeing a lot of good power plant scenes that might cover a broad era of their use.

Charlie Comstock and backdrop painting
At the 2nd Division PNR meet last month, Charlie Comstock gave a very informative clinic and demonstration on how he paints the backdrops on his Bear Creek & South Jackson RR.
We got it all on video. I do apologize if it's a bit rocky at points, the video was primarily there to put a close up view on the projector for all to see.
