Busch Hop Field

Busch makes a hop field kit (http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/189-1215) that I'm currently working on assembling - it's looking like it's going to look really quite good when I get done. Note: the photo on the Walther site shows at least 4 of these kits together.

A few notes for anyone considering putting this one together themselves:

Bare wood look

Before you post based on my topic my internet says www.pacificcoastairlinerr.com/weathered_wood/, can not find the server. I use firefox. I want to have wood from fresh cut to varying states of weathered. I don't even know where to start with fresh cut. I understand grey is probably best done with washes but will except any sugestions. Thanks

Foam Rocks

Textured latex paint

I have a fairly large area that I want to put a red/brown dirt texture on before starting ground foam for vegetation. I've read the recent zip texture article and may try that. I've tried sanded tile grout and it seems tough to get it to look decent but also be completely bonded.

B.T.S. Slaty Fork Mill Lights

I have almost completed my HO B.T.S. Slaty Fork Mill and am interested in lighting it.  I already have the lights for the outside but would like to do the inside as well.  Has anyone already done this?  Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks

Tenmile Creek hand carved rockwork white fuss issue

This is the first time I try Joe Fugate's Tenmile Creek Series Great Looking Hand Carved Rock.

I use Portland cement, Plaster Paris & Baking powder to make the rocks. All went well and I am happy with the out come but a day or so after I was done with the rock carving and painting and weathering I started to get a white fuss coming out of the rock and surrounding area.

Looking for repository of high resolution building photos

I want to make some backdrop buildings by gluing photos of buildings to foam board, I have a few photos of buildings that I've taken squared to the building, but I wondered if there is a collection of high resolution photos somewhere that can be used to this.

Thanks,

Concrete piers with sheetrock mud

I created the bridge piers by cutting 7/16 OSB to size and then covering it with sheetrock "mud". Then after drying, I carefully shape it with a knife and sandpaper. Coloring is washes of paints and india ink.

This is my Skagg's Hole Bridge, first ever scratchbuild project, on my Virginia Southern layout. The VS is the merger of the Clinchfield and Interstate, set in the mid 70's. Layout is a 27x32 HO triple decker.

Enjoy!

Hydrocal castings/structure kits Pros/Cons? are they popular across scales or just in HO?

Hi all.

Was wondering about structure kits containing hydrocal(a form of plaster) castings. How do they rate as far quality, strength, detail and price and popularity and what scales typicaly use that kind of material? Not interested in a particular manufacturer just the material in general.
