Walthers HO 90' Turntable

I have a Walthers HO scale 90' turntable in my stash, still unopened, that I plan to use on my newly started layout.  It is an older version in that it is manually operated (no drive motor).  Walthers still offers the basic drive motor assembly for the turntable and I'm debating whether to pick one up or not.

Backdrops. Photobackdrops

Backdrops. That's the topic that sends chills down my spine. I can have at a loco, turnout or stucture and get away with it, but backdrops? Hmm. Different caper altogether that. I have painted some pr-etty ordinary scenes in the past.

Hiding a programming track in plain sight

I was visiting the Orlando Society of Model Railroaders http://osmr.webs.com/  last April, and saw a neat technique for hiding the programming track.  The folks there modeled a place where a turnout had been removed, and a roadbed with no tack, heading off the edge of the table.  But, one section of track hadn't been removed.  Rusty, overgrown, it looked completely natural--a bit of abandoned rail the salvagers hadn't taken up.  That is one of their programming tracks, hidden in plan sight.

WHAT'S NEXT???

Hello, I've been working on my 12x15 freelance HO scale layout for about 2 yrs now; I layed down tracks, built structures with integrated lighting etc. etc.

My question is what's the next sequence , make the roads, sidewalks, trees, pour resin for water etc. in other words what's  the first thing I should start with?

I still have a few more structures to build.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you.

Serge

Which roundhouse kits are good?

I'm going to be needing a plastic roundhouse kit at some point, and need to know which ones are of a good quality--reasonably well made kits that look right.  I don't need to park Big Boys and such--the largest is likely to be a 4-6-2 or a 2-8-2.  One stall might be dual gauge, for a 2 foot gauge 2-6-6-2 Mallet or a Garratt.  I want a brick roundhouse for sure.  I'll be doing only 3-4 stalls, but may expand later.  The railroad is based in Maine.

Highway Miniatures 1921 T Ford Calliope Truck build

I’ve had a Model T Ford in my kit box since Moose Miniatures in Rowley, Massachusetts, went out of business, along with several other kits.

The owner was very knowledgeable, and it was his expertise that truly got me back into the hobby after a quarter century away.

Priming Structure

I recently purchased a laser cut structure from Blair Lines. I have been told that I should seal the wood prior to assembly or painting it to prevent the wood from warping. I plan to airbrush this structure with either Floquil enamel or Poly S paint. Which of the two should I use? Also, what should I seal the wood with? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Making Trees

I spent the evening trying out my skills at making some furnace filter trees.  I've never done anything remotely like this either, so I approached it with some trepidation. I think they turned out okay for a first attempt.  They will certainly find a home on my layout, that's for sure.  I'm pretty confident that they will get better the more I make too.  Goodness knows, modeling British Columbia on even a small layout like mine will more then likely require a couple hundred!

Advice on painting rock castings

Hi guys,

I have had a go at coloring my rock cliff face with the Woodland Scenics pigments. My base color is slate grey.

I think it came out ok but for the very evident "white" between the rock castings.

I did not use Hydrocal as it is just too expensive for me . I used the Plaster of Paris rather as an alternative.I joined the castings with the same, unaware that I was going to have this unrealistic appearance .

Scratch building a gym interior--the start

I built the first interior fixtures for a gym, and was less than satisfied with the boxing ring.  I'm doing a new one--does anyone want to see the build as I go?  And if so, post here, or in a blog?

The punching bag, I am satisfied with, and the first boxer just needs gloves added.  (I have a second boxer started, but she's not ready to show yet.  The base figure is not suitable for minors, and the paint isn't finished.)

The lass in the ring, and her soon to be painted KO victim, are made from Presier nude sunbathers.
