Simple line side structure to model

Here's a simple lineside structure from the Norfolk Southern mainline in Hot Springs, NC. Could be a fun project and you only need a trailer, some strip wood and other misc detailing.

LPG dealer versus Farm Co-op

Walthers lineside LPG tanks have been slowly turning up at trainshows for a year or two now... Having the inability to resist such neat kits, I have bought several with the idea of building several dealers along the line.

The question is: How many tanks represent a large agrichem dealer and/or propane distributor? What looks good in HO scale? Many articles over the years seem to utilize one or two tanks, but what about a bigger facitily? Is less really more with this type of industry?

BNSF videos

Wow,

What a job... Making public relations videos for BNSF...

http://www.bnsf.com/media/video/

Folks, I was trying to find photos of the lift bridge project the BNSF completed over the Mississippi which is rather unique. To my surprise, I found several videos on the subject done by BNSF (read: better access than any railfan) for the bridge project as well as all kinds of other videos.

There is one video on the special moves with their Schnabel car which is poignent considering the new release from Bachmann.

Super Trees vs Puff Ball Trees for BACKGROUND Trees - What about mountainside prep?

Due to the fact instead of having deeper scenes that I used to have (2.5' - 3') and now going with shallower scenes (6"-18") I am beginning to reconsider using Super Trees for back ground trees versus using Puff Ball Trees, because although it's the background, it is so close, having SOME detail of trees might be needed.

I'm not sure which size of ballast should I use for my H0 scale tracks - Woodland Scenic Fine or Medium? What do you suggest?

Something I haven't seen modeled often

I was just looking at the Shoo-Fly module thread, and something caught my eye.  In 1:1 railroading, it's quite common to see the remnants of old wood pilings beneath or beside more modern concrete or steel bridges.  In some cases, the pilings ended slightly above ground level and served as a base for the trestle bents, in others the bents have simply been cut away when the new bridge was built.  But I cannot think of many model bridges which have been treated in this fashion.  Plenty of steel and concrete, and of course plenty of wooden trestles, but how many folk

For those who make their own ground foam, what type and brand of paint do you use to color the foam?

I have been using latex paints from Lowes and Home Depot (the low-mid level brands) to paint ground foam.  Though I have not used any in any applications yet, I started making my own foam many years ago and have stored in in plastic containers intending to use it later.  One thing I have noticed, as I opened one of the containers, is the color has faded.  So i'm very concerned that I am not using the correct type of paint.  Or it could be I never properly soaked the ground foam (I add the paint AFTER I send it through the blender in water several times) to add eno

Double track bridges need abutment and piers

Hi

I am building an N-scale module with double track crossing a wide river (see enclosed image). I need your assistance with pictures of abutment and piers as inspiration to build myself and/or suggestions for products to buy.

Building flats

Is there a site where there are trackside building flats we can print out and mount on foam core board?  I seem to recall seeing one a few years ago....
