Engine stalls at frogs - Update and questions

Simulating engine brakes

I just read an artical last night about one of the decoder brands havings a cv setting that will simulate the independent brakes on a moving engine that you set with an F function key. This would allow you to fan the independent to control your speed and better spot your stop. Most engineers I worked with could stop an engine with or without a train on a dime, or just short of signal bonds, by usinng the independent brake. Does anyone know if any of the Digitrax decoders have a similar setting. I have not had a chance look around as this is my long weekend to work.

Converting a Rivarossi Y6b from DC to DCC

Hello,

My first post here. I have a 1970's Rivarossi Y6b I want to convert to DCC without sound. I've heard that some motors need to be isolated from the frame for this to work. What's the best way to do this and would the decoder (DigiTrax) be better suited in the tender or the engine?

 Thanks,

 Jim

Using flex track to layout a curve.

I am using Atlas code 83, some sectional, some flex for my layout.  Is there some sort of template I can use to put down on my surface and bend the flex track to match?  I was trying to eyeball it without any kind of template and I keep getting derailments when I test it out. I need to make the curve somewhere between 18 and 20 inch radius.

What was the "recordable decoder"?

I remember a while back a Tsunami decoder was released where you could set the locomotive into a record mode, run it around the layout, stopping and starting it as you wish, and later, whenever you want, replay those motions without intervention as you run another train or just plain watch.

So, not being an electronic's expert, here are my questions:

Ro Ro Elevator Track Alignment -- Any interesting approaches?

Due to the limited space allotted by management for my layout, I am using a Ro-Ro elevator as my off-layout fiddle yard. The discharge end faces into a corner and a curved and elevated section of track bends around to meet it. The entire 7x10 layout is on teflon feet so it can be slid out to service the wall-mounted heat pump and seasonally accessed windows. This has been an interesting design challenge all by itself.

Need some tool advice

I need some advice on tools - I hope I put this in the right place on the forum.  I will be modeling in HO scale Since my needs are many, but funds are small, I need to make good informed purchases.  So I need to tap into the collective wisdom of the forum.

Matching decoders to locomotive/brand and whether or not to add on sound later vs. upfront

Has anyone ever made a chart matching decoders to brand/type?  And, if I were to put D13SRJ into everything and then add sound later, would I be making a reasonable move?

With regard to adding sound later, does anyone have suggestions?

I'm using Kato, Genesis, Spectrum, and even a Rivarossi Big Boy that I thought about converting.  All would have to be hardwired and none (or very few) are plug and play.

Thanks,

Brendan

CAN NOT READ CV ==HELP!

I just installed a NCE  power pro radio on my layout. As suggested, a program track is on place. However, a new Atlas mp15 HO does not want to be programmed, either on main nor program track. In the NCE  book, there is some confusion about how to wire the program track, be it separated from main, or linked with a dpdt switch.

Any advise ?
