83 vs 100 in helix

Other than cost, is there a reason why one would use code 100 in a helix when 83 is the rail size entering and exiting the helix?

Looking for how to articles to build DCC Booster and Power Supply

I have spent over an hour searching using different terms in google with no luck.  I lost the links to various web pages that had electronic diagrams for various DCC Boosters and Power Supplies.  The reason why I want to build my own is cost.  With the large current draw of Tsunami Decoders, it is very possible that each station/town will need it's own booster and power supply so spending hundreds of dolalrs will become very expensive.  IIRC, the cost of the parts is abotu 1/10th of the price of say a PB105 NCE Booster so the cost savings is worth the time

DCC Experts, CV1 not reading?

DCC Experts! I have a Boradway Limited AC6000 (well 3 actually, but), with Paragon 2 sound/DCC... I programmed it last fall with a SPROG II and JMRI. It ran fine. I took it out of the box on Sunday, ran it back & forth, testing some new track. It ran fine.

I decided I wanted momentum effects, and programmed a vale of 20 into both starting & stopping.

Minimum Wire Size for DCC Feeder Wires

For HO Scale, what is the minimum wire size for Feeder wires?  I have some spools of single pair telephone wire (I think its 24AWG but i'm not sure).

Setting up Power Districts...

 Hi All,

Quick question for those that have set-up power districts, what determined the length or spacing that you used for each power district.  Joe I have watched your DCC how too on the Siskiyou Line DVD and yours seem quite large.  Or is this just the districts for each booster that you show?

I understand the principles behind using them, and that when a short occurs only that section and not the entire layout shuts down, and that then finding the short is made easier, so therefore would a metre in length be sufficient, or is that overkill?

AC/DC Adapter showing higher than rated volts

Hey Guys,

I have this AC/DC adapter that I purchased at Radio Shack and it has the option to change the voltage based on your needs (ie 3.4, 5, 6, 7.5, 9, 12). While I've ran my accessories off of the 12v without issue, I've recently been running some other tests and found that the volts coming out are actually 15.9v without anything running, and 15.7v with an LED hooked up.

Understanding Electronic Component Values

Hey Guys,

Track spacing

 Hi All-

First post here... I've seen a lot of posts related to track spacing for HO... 2" on straights and 2-3/8" or 2-1/2" around curved sections.  My question is, when going from a straight to curved section, what's the best way to transition the track spacing difference?

Thanks.

Decoder recommendations for starting out...

 Hi All,

I'm after some ideas on decoders for my locos to start out with.  I have several Athearn RTR DCC Ready (SD50 x1, SD45 x 2, GP35 x1), Atlas Silver series (GP40-2 x 2, MP15 x 1), Proto 2000 (GP7 x 1, SD9 x 2, GP30 x 1) and a Bachmann (GP7 x 1).

I have recently purchased two TCS - T1 decoders and have them installed in the Athearn SD50 & GP35, both are running well and I'm fairly happy with them so far, apart from some noise from either the motor or gears on the GP35.
