Powering Atlas solenoid switch motors -- DC/AC/???

Recently I stumbled across Atlas undertable switch motors, which would be great for the upper shelf of my layout as there is very little vertical clearance. Am using Tortoise motors elsewhere and controlling them all with DS64s fed by a common DC power bus (discarded flat screen TV power supply). The upper layer track is all mounted on cork over camper tape to damp sound. But I am having a bit of a senior moment trying to understand the conflicting discussions about the appropriate power source. The vendor says an AC power source is required to toggle the solenoid.

What Turnout #'s to use for Yard & Sidings on HO Layouts

Hi, Fellers:  What would U sugest as to the size of turnouts to use on a HO layout?

In the Yard:--

  On the Main Line:--

On Sizings:--

Digitrax DS64

I'm considering opperating my turnouts using a DS64 (connected to Tortoise machines) but I'd also like to have the ability to opperate the turnouts with facia-mounted toggle switches.

wire strippers that will strip insulation in the middle of a wire

Two years ago at the San Antonio train show a fellow in a small booth was demonstrating his wire stripper that would strip off insulation in the middle of a length of wire.  I was really tempted but passed on it because I had a bunch of the suitcase connectors which I planned to use to connect my feeders to the bus wire.  Two years later and those red suitcase connections are suffering from exposure to salt air (I live on an island).  I've got a lot of connections to reconnect all of which are under the platform; that task is complicated by my need for bifocals to see cl

Frog Juicer Installed - Ladykiller up and running

I wanted to thank all the folks here for the assistance with my engine stalling at the frogs.
Picked up the frog juicer (for PowerCab) based on readings here – installed, rechecked all drop feeds, cleaned track again (thoroughly this time) and she is running great.
The juicer is pretty slick – hats off to Tim.

Using Decoder Pro with a Macbook...

 Hi All,

I want to use Decoder Pro with a Macbook, has anybody on MRH successfully used Decoder Pro with a Macbook via a USB to RS 232 Serial Adaptor using a NCE Power Pro?

I purchased a USB to Serial adaptor today only to realise that it was for Windows only, I tried downloading a driver for    OS X but it doesn't seem to be working.  Would appreciate any ideas...

Cheers,

Jas...

Tsunami help

Hey Folks,

I have recently installed 2 TSU AT-1000 Alco decoders into two of my RS-3 locomotives.

The install was interesting as you can imagine, but is now complete and everything is working correctly.

wiring mystery

I'm stumped by my most recent wiring problem. I'm wiring for DC two cab control, using common rail wiring. I have several blocks all isolated properly by gaps in the rails. For the common rail the wires all come to a brass bus terminal which then is extended by one wire to the control panel. The power rail wires come to a dual barrier terminal strip where each block is isolated and then extended to the control panel individually for each block, then at the control panel power is routed through toggle switches.
