Are there ways to improve Soundtraxx sound quality?

I've spent a decent amount of time comparing Soundtraxx and ESU diesel sound files, using my computer and a good set of headphones, which I feel is a fair way to compare between the two as it eliminates speaker and enclosure differences.  Anyway, for about every Soundtraxx sample I hear, the sounds, particularly the prime mover, have more of a muffled, distant or "muddy" sound to them.  They're not nearly as crisp or in your face as some other samples.

ESU Essentials Lighting Function Question

I picked up a Walthers Mainline GP9 with the ESU Essentials sound unit.  I spent the past week looking at the thing and I think I finally have a good plan for it.

Looking over the manual, it states that it has 4 lighting functions.  There are no ditch lights on this, so 2 of those are unused.  So the question I have is can I use one of those functions to run a strobe?

Controller modification on a budget

Need Some Arduino/LED Help

In my blog, on page 19, I describe a lighting project I'm working on.

As can be seen from code and description, 14 LEDs will be used, with two on each of seven pins. Assuming 18-20 mA each with a 470 ohm resistor per pair, this would exceed the 200 mA total for board. As I am anything but an electronic whiz, what would be the minimum resistor I would need to drop total amperage below that total?

Walthers Layout Control System Help

Hello everyone, I am in need of some help. We are operating the Walthers Layout Control System, and have one switch machine that is giving us problems. The problem is that the pushbutton shows yellow when the turnout is in the straight position, and green when it is lined for the diverging route. I would like it to be opposite. However, if I turn off power and switch the machine manually, it 'fixes' itself and goes back to the wrong way.

Looking for ad

Hi,

I remember an ad for a new type of rail connector or module rail connector in the magazine, and I can't find it.

It looks like a short length of track that can be repeatedly connected together. Also at angles.

Not the little metal connectors. This was something new.

Anyone know what it is?

New Walther's Curved Turnouts

Hey all, first post here. Been lurking for awhile but am finally working on a track plan concurrently with bench work construction after moving to a house with a basement last fall. I do not have a ton of space, just a 6'x8' table top with an around-the-walls branch line around 3 walls that is roughly 18' in total length. Considering this is my first solo-build layout (I was in a club in college), I feel like this is a right-sized first layout project.

making turnouts with fast tracks tools

In the "greatest frustrations" thread there was some talk about building turnouts, either with fast tracks tools or without or with just some of them (joe's poor-man jigless approach).

I didn't want to drag that thread too far off topic, so I started a new one, because this is of interest to me.

Oh NO!!! Broken link to Bruce Petrarca's video

I wanted to look for further advice on AutoReversing a turntable.

I found Bruce's article (Jan 2015) and the link on page 8 is broken.

(mrdccu.com/curriculum/wiring.htm).

Also, NCE's user group links to the same missing video.

Bruce? Are you there? Can you help?

TIA!

Digitrax's Product Strategy and the DCC Market

While reading the Lenz thread, I got to thinking about a discussion that I had partially had but was censored and never completed on the Digitrax groups.io group a while back. In order to avoid rambling on a thread about Lenz, I started one about Digitrax.
