Thinking Outside the Box - Yard Design

I titled this: Thinking Outside the Box - Yard Design because I think most people think that a yard needs to be straight (because that's how 95% of the prototype yards are).  I know that's how I've been thinking.  I've been trying to squeeze a yard in to a 30" x 19' area.  (I say trying because I am trying to have a 12' Arrival/Departure track because that's the length train I'd like to run and I have to account for curves on each end.)  I had a good plan, then I realized to get the engine to the turntable, I'd have to

Hi everybody

I'm an italian modeler and I wish to build an HO scale freight yard in my mansard (51' x 25') partially utilizable. I'm looking for some layout inclusive of roundhouse and turntable, but so far I don't have find any plans.

Can somebody help me?

Sorry for my bad english

Display console with DCC?

I'm in the throws of building a shelf layout that will run around a 10' x 12' room. I have wired it as though it were going to be DC controlled, with each block subdivided for block detection (I know this also makes troubleshooting DCCshorts much easier).

Layout Thoughts/Comments/Suggestions?

Hi there folks, long time reader, first time writer...  I have what I think is my final attempt at a new layout I'm just about to begin.  It's taken a long time to get something I like, then when I do I go and change it anyway.  So, I'm getting tired of planning and ready to start building, but I thought I'd run it by some professionals before I do.

Backdrop height suggestions?

I'm not quite ready yet to put up backdrops, but does anyone have suggestions for how tall they should be? I'm doing HO, single shelf around as much of a 10 x 12 foot room as possible; the shelves are 24-30". I figure 24" would give two pieces from one sheet of Masonite or 1/4" MDF (from experience in furniture building I know wetting it thoroughly before bending will allow the MDF to contour beautifully). The backdrops will be installed before the scenery is begun, which will in turn begin after I have finished laying the rest of the track, wiring, and testing.

One Layout - Two Eras?

After years of armchair model railroading, I'm finally in the midst of designing my first real layout. The space is roughly 12' x 28' and will have 2’  shelves around the walls with a center peninsula, all of it will be double deck. The location will be North Vancouver BC.

Palouse and Elk River Railroad layout plan

Hello all,

I'm currently prepping my 11' x 16' basement to build my N scale layout.  Ive built a few HO modules over the years and have had a few 4x8 foot layouts since the 4th Grade so I'm ready to dive into my dream layout.  I'm looking for ideas and feedback so any comments are welcome.

Street Running....

Hello all,

Does anyone have any good photos of, I guess it's called street running....Engines dropping off cars to industries in town/citys where buildings are tight. This months magazine has a great layout of what I am talking about and it's what has sparked my interest. Any help would be Great. Also does Walther or other model companies have buildings that are made for this kind of layout or is it more or less a build it your self to siut thing?

Thanks a ton,

Ernest

Where did you place your turntable?

Hi folks,

I'm currently designing an multi-deck N Scale layout based on Tehachapi in the 1950s. One of the design elements I would like to include is SP's Bakerfield yard including the roundhouse. Before I get too involved with building lots of benchwork, I would like to take on the design and operation in small bites, which I hope will prevent burnout and mistakes as I go.
