J&M comes into its own

I have been trying to decide which way to go with the J&M and its motive power. Do I leave them as they are, Milwaukee Road? Do i have them repainted as a shortline, such as Michigan Shore? Beautiful red and silver? Or do I make it its own shortline?

C&O RSD5 - Long or Short hood Forward?

Dear C&O fans,

Hopefully a quick one, which significant hours online searching has not yet definitively answered....

For the C&O 905X series Alco RSD5,
and the C&O EMD GP9,

Did C&O consider the Short or the Long hood to be the Front?

Metra orders rebuilt SD70MACs

This news story popped up on my Google "Discover" news feed on my phone today:

https://www.railwaygazette.com/news/traction-rolling-stock/single-view/view/metra-orders-rebuilt-freight-locomotives.html

Sounds pretty interesting. Could be some good modeling opportunites for those who model modern passenger ops!

Improving electrical pickup!

Photo tutorial of improving the electrical pickup on the newer Genesis locomotives from Athearn.  Also works for P2K, Atlas, Kato and others with this system.

I have been doing this for years now and it really helps improve the performance.

Three of Four VIA Rail F40PH-2 Engines Finished

I have finished custom building the third of four N Scale Kato F40PH engines to VIA Rail colours.

This engine is in the later Large Flag scheme.

Proto2000 GP Tune Up and DCC Installation

I’ve been impressed with the value of the Proto2000 (P2K) GP-7/9/18/20 series since they began coming out in the late 1990’s.  For between $40-70, you can get a great running diesel locomotive with just a little bit of elbow grease.  I recently looked on eBay and found over 40 GP9s for sale, and even more GP7s.  These are readily available at train shows as well.

Looking for handrails for Atlas S1/S2/S3 or S4

I am looking for Atlas side handrails for the Atlas S1/S2/S3 or S4 to support a kitbashing project that I am working on (Western Maryland Slug 138-T).

I checked ebay, the Atlas spare parts website, and posted to  the groups.io site "hoswap".

Smokey Valley makes a set of hand stanchions but naturally Walthers is out of stock.

Any ideas on where else to look?   I am loath to buy another Atlas loco just to score the handrails.  I purchased a set of Alco handrail stanchions from Precision Scale but they are the wrong type.
