What's New at the Railroad Hobby Show
Sat, 2019-01-26 08:48 — jeffshultz
Okay, this is going to be cell phone photos at first, and DSLR shots later tonight.
Update: someone asked that I explain where the Railroad Hobby Show is. Indeed, up until a few years ago, I had no idea what people were talking about when they mentioned "the Springfield show."
The Railroad Hobby Show is put on by the Amherst Railway Society at the Eastern States Exposition Center (Big E) in West Springfield, Massachusetts in late January or early February. Thus it is known as "The Railroad Hobby Show," "The Big E show," "The Amherst Show," or "The Springfield Show."

The squeaky wheel
It's not "people" (implies a large body of folks) ... it's just a few (at least one) squeaky wheel(s) making noise.
I do have to wonder, if folks asked Az to make them some interiors and to charge a fair price for his time, what would HE charge? And make sure he adds in some LEDs that work with the Woodland Scenics system.
Since the minimum wage is going up to $15 per hour, I'm betting it would be at least $15 if he does minimum wage - then throw in a dollar or two for the LEDs and hey guess what! That $20 price doesn't look at all unreasonable.
I for one would love to see Az show us, real time on video, doing a room interior from start to finish in 30 min. Sounds like hyperbole to me.

Joe, How much will you pay me for an article?
Joe, How much will you pay me for an article, then will you publish it?
I'm "N" scale so will it be too small?
If so send me an article template, to copy, I'm not a writer or author but if you want to do an article on how to make your own roomettes at home, sure. will you guarantee that it will be published and will I get paid?
I'm not doing buildings at this time for the layout so deverting my time to something I'm not working, is not part of the game plan, how much money for an article to change my mind?
Let me add 1 correction, I'm designing a line of photo etch parts at this time for another manufacturer. So once that product line is complete and at the the etch stage, Then I can play this game.

Fake Model Railroader, subpar at best.
Providing no usable information or value to this or any conversation.
Can not spell, has limited writing skills and failed reading comprehension.
Most post contain a great deal of snark, A true indication off no education and well below average intelligence.
And not to mention the long standing siggy which also smacks of trolling.
I can't believe I'm getting sucked into this
Sounds like a great idea! Someone using their expertise to help others. I just wish someone did something like this for modeling building interiors....
(I'll show myself out)

What a strange hill to die on.
Honestly, I personally don't like the looks of the roomettes. They don't fit my style or era, so therefore the price is irrelevant. The guy could be selling them for 99 cents and I probably still wouldn't buy them because they don't fit my theme. The US dollar is becoming almost as valueless as Canadian funny money. The newsflash of things are now expensive is more of a political debate than a model railroad one. If Az has a problem with the price, that's his opinion and that's cool and all, but why are you all having a dick measuring contest with the guy? Who cares if he can make roomettes or not? If he can great, if not whatever. To me his ability to make or not makes roomettes are as valuable as his opinions, which is not very. This thread is a prime candidate for locking. As hypocritical as it is coming from me, don't enable the behavior you don't want to see.

Article?
I would read the CRAP out of an article by Az.
We don't always agree on things, but hell, an article is something different than just opinions.
Just remember, Az, when writing for a magazine, photos, and illustrations are VERY important.
Get a decent background for your photography (I have found a lot of inexpensive things work as backgrounds, from construction paper of a solid colour, to... well, lots of stuff)
Oh, and remember, if you do write an article, not only do you get that satisfaction of being published (which, if you're like me, you can lord over people) but, you'll also get paid!
I have won arguments with that... "whatever... I'm a paid writer!"
An awful lot of drama here
An awful lot of drama here over a new product. I think a new product is wonderful, whether or not someone can use the new product for their modeling, there is obviously a market. And 'roomettes' may just be the beginning of what a new manufacturer may offer. Just because one does not like or cannot use the new product is no reason to throw the proprietor under the bus. Walthers has pages of things I will never purchase, doesn't mean I am going to take them to task for carrying something I don't want or need. Who knows, the.next thing he comes out with may be something right up your alley, but if he gets badmouthed and shutout before he even gets a chance than we may never know... he just may get sick of having to do battle here in this forum. Plus it is another advertiser for MRH. So lets support rather than reject just because we don't want to buy what is offered. Just my opinion.

Happy to move on.
I've stated my case and I'm happy to move on.
I only wanted to make the point that Azbaja was grossly oversimplifying the process (ask me how I know) and that there are many people who would rather just buy an interior in kit form. I'd like to read some reviews from modelers who have actually used it rather than from people who have no intention of ever using it.
I admit that when I first encountered Woodland Scenics' Just Plug system I was skeptical that it would catch on. Now that I've put it into use I have to say that it's brain-dead-simple, fast and probably worth every penny for the people who've adopted it.
