Finally started my backdrop for my layout

It has been a while since i had some time to start the backdrop on my layout. Living in Brisbane Au. It was HOT! Took lots of breaks to keep cool. Did not take any photos for all to see. Just thought I would post an update on my progress.

Workin' on Joint Bars - for the BNML

I realized some time ago that I'm going to need hundreds of joint bars for the BNML and a recent discussion ( Staggered rail joints measurements info needed ) here on MRH got me inspired to begin working on them.

The Sights and Sounds of Big Thunder Creek

There's a new post on the Thunder Mesa site today about putting the finishing touches on my Big Thunder Creek scene. This is part four in the series and covers sound effects, landscaping and other details. There's also a new video:

Test driving my new shelves from Precision Design Company

As soon as I heard Bill Brillinger was selling his little shelves he had in his blog, I jumped on the opportunity to pick up a few.  I ordered them last week and received them yesterday.  While I was watching the Oilers play terribly, come back strong and then lose in overtime, I put two of them together.

This is what I had when I first opened the package:

Fine Tuning

Here are some shots of my upgrading and recording of my rolling stock with some comments. First, weighing the cars, I then check for coupler height and to see if they roll freely. I don't mean roll; I mean roll freely.

Model Railroad Maxims

I have also re-acquainted myself with several important maxims about model railroading:

The Whole mess so far

Few weeks ago I just showed the upper deck layout plan...not much there has changed....but now I have a start on the Main and staging.  Like I said before, It is a modified version of Pldvdk's N&W Pokey Division with his blessing.  Im modeling the GTW, but freelanced....so no coal mines.  The layout plan no where close to finished, but I really liked Paul's concept of the mainline so id like to try and keep it like it is.
