Adding the Penisula for Whirlpool

Well spent the last couple of weekends working on the layout. Here is the new peninsula for the Whirlpool lead.

Northampton & Bath Boxcar

Northampton & Bath Boxcar

To All: The Northampton & Bath RR was a 6.8 Pennsylvania short line built in 1904 to serve the cement industry. By 1979 this traffic had disappeared so the line was abandoned. The line is now a Rails to Trails facility. The car is used on my layout to serve a cement plant. I assembled, detailed, painted and lettered this craftsman car kit. Photo by Elvin Howland. The Model Railroad Archaeologist

Construction work ground to a halt in Tucson, AZ tonight after crews digging new utility line trenches happened across traces from prior settlements.  A team of resident researchers applied what they know to the ruins, identifying the structure as no older than 1975 but no newer than 1993 when prior construction covered this site.  Engineers and archealogists are now working with construction officials to see the scene properly excavated and hopefuly removed for preservation while keeping site preparation on schedule.

Today I finished construction of a GLX railcar transfer tower, including some alterations to better fit my prototype.  Below are a couple GLX photos of the stock model, from http://glxscalemodels.com/craftsman-structure-kits/ :

A New Blog for my HOn3/HO Efforts

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share a new blog I've set up to chronicle my modeling in HOn3, as well as some HO standard gauge.  There are only two posts so far, in which I've discussed the basic concept of my freelanced railroad-to-be as well as a notional history.

Hopefully some will find something useful or interesting in there!

Running new Missouri Pacific MP15 on the layout.  The post merger paint scheme, (UP Yellow with Missouri Pacific lettering), fits perfectly with my layout era.

Tichy Reefer Part 4

Yesterday while the frame was drying, I worked on the basic Car Body assembly.

First ends are cemented in place, and then a small angled piece in order to keep it square with roof. This actually went together better than I thought it would.

Close up of angle support.

Hindsight is always 20/20

Like the old saying goes. After trying to run some of the new rolling stock I came to the conclusion that the street inside the rails was too thick. Its right up against the inside of the rails causing the cars to constantly derail. So 2 choices. Tear up whats there and replace it with .05 or .10 styrene or carefully remove the inner portion and cut it narrower so it sits down against the molded in spikes. That was less expensive and easier to do. So this morning was spent reworking that.
