Part #2, Railroad Maintenance of Way

Railroad Maintenance of Way

To All: Sperry Rail Service is hired by railroads to test the rail for micro cracks, broken rail and other problems. This service is used to prevent derailments and other concerns for the railroad. Use of a self-propelled Sperry Rail car on your Pike adds interest to your operations. Models of this car have been produced in model form. Photo by Elvin Howland. Yours, Elvin Howland/E. SD15-2 UPDATED

I'm back at work with my "What If?" SD15-2. It's built using Atlas, Cannon, and Smokey Valley parts. I figure with so many SD-30s being made, I'd divide it in half.

Part #1, Railroad Maintenance of Way

Railroad Maintenance of Way

To All: Today I start a new series called Railroad Maintenance of Way. Pictured is a Burro crane used by many railroads for light duty line side work. They have enough power to pull a gondola that may contain new ties or other supplies. I captured this example of a the CSX (B&O) Burro Crane. Powered models of these have been produced. January Layout Update

Hi,

January update, Christmas is over back to the building. Christmas present from my children, first time they have gotten me any RR stuff, and a fine first time if I say so my self. It is sitting on the return leg for continuous running of the layout (new section). More experimentation with Scenics Express products between the tracks, not to bad. I will get the hang of it yet.

The Railroad Hobby Show - Springfield Day 1

Yep, it's my turn to travel to the Big E in West Springfield, MA for the Amherst Railway Society Railroad Hobby Show.
The weather is excellent, cold but clear, so the crowds were pretty large today - there were times it was definitely difficult to get around through all the bodies. If you are coming out to the show, MRH is in the Better Life Center (BLC) #62.

I spent today looking for new product announcements, or items that hadn't been shown publicly yet.

More info in the comments....

3D printing lamps

When I was installing a DCC decoder in my Kato 7 tons DL for my 0e16.5 layout, I though that it would be great to have some working headlight instead of the moulded ones from the kit  (from Aru Model). As it would be already hard for me to do such little item from scratch without light, the only way to have it would to 3D print it.

CY&P RR - More Under-Table Finds

I'm making a lot of progress in my big change of direction:

http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/24650

I have previously noted in my Under Table archeology post:  http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/24998  of finding a long lost and forgotten Ten Wheeler from my earliest days in HO railroading.  Thanks to "ogremtb" for identifying it as an Aristo-Craft model.
