Gwent Steel HO - a first American layout for a UK modeller

I thought it appropriate to introduce myself and my background first.
I've been a modeller for over 50 years (starting off with Hornby O gauge tinplate) and must have built more than 15 layouts, all UK Great Western Railway or British Rail Western Region and mostly UK OO gauge.

JR&L Railroad blog

After reading and admiring all of the works of layouts, structure builds and rolling stock (in the back ground) I have finally decided to start some projects. I am starting a scratch bash project with a walthers round house. Some of the things I plan on doing include:

Full interior detail with lighting
Exterior lights
True wood beams
Upgrading the doors to central valley model works shop door (I really want them to work)
Weathering
Stone foundation (I was thinking that the outer edge would be a little lower then the track side)

Missouri Pacific Railroad, Willoughby, Arkansas Branch, Frozen Foods Plant Part-3

The last 3-4 weeks have been busy with little time for Model Railroading. My Wife and Me have had to contend with Mom's situation after she "took a tumble" and the maze of selecting and getting her into assisted living.

Things are settling down and last night I actually found time to continue work on my Frozen Foods plant.

The next step in my process was prepping the structure and starting the painting process.  Prepping included sanding down areas where I had to correct imperfections and repairs, (see previous blogs), with spackle or plaster.

FWWR's Dublin Sub - Benchwork

Been a busy month for me but I was able to get some work done on the layout. Bench work and backdrop going up. Slow but steady. Pictures following.

CY&PRR - A First Look At West Linncott

Thanks to a really crappy Spring this year, I have been allowed more time indoors and have applied it toward my rebuild/new direction project first mentioned here:

Writing an article

Well they asked and I guess I will step up. MRH asked for articles on small layouts and I guess my 31.5 square foot switching layout qualifies as that. So I sent a message to MRH and got back an affirmative response. This will give em some incentive to get cracking on the railroad. And besides that, its getting towards summer here in Florida which means it'll be too bloody hot to be outside during the daytime. Directly the opposite of you guys up north where you want to be outside in the summer.

A Chance To Salvage A Layout.......

I recently received an email pasted below (names and phone numbers removed) giving me a chance to if i help dismantle a layout get any parts of it I want, i have yet to receive pictures but as soon as i do will post them here. So the big question is should i take it?

Here is the email:

More night time photography

As another two coaches have been added to my 'Overland' express, I took a few happy snaps of the layout last night - trying to pose scenes to give the images a time and place. The Overland was (and still is to some point) an nightly overnight express train that linked Adelaide and Melbourne - sadly the once great 16 car express is now just a 4-5 car sitting train that operates just two return trips a week between the two cities...
