Building my shelf layout(s)

It is time for me to update this introduction. In fact it is way past time! (today is November 10, 2020) I am now starting on my third shelf layout. The first was meant to be a "chainsaw" layout. A place to experiment and learn but not last long. It was around for nine years. Before The end of that time I started another layout. This time it was more of a prototype layout. It was based on the Santa Fe McPherson (Kansas) branch. The four 6'x18" sections of that layout will hopefully be incorporated into a new bedroom sized layout.

Easy Model Railroad Inventory How to Design a Complicated Query

I had completed my timetable and was selecting the cars for each train. Selecting the cars is simple.

Click the Add button to the right of the Assigned Cars tab to view a list of all of the cars that fit the requirements.

Before a car will be displayed for selection it must meet very specific criteria.

1. Service type not a locomotive,

2. The car cannot be assigned to another train,

For Sale Lionel trainmaster transformer

Floquil Marker pens

Hi Jack from Star, Idaho.  I have a question about the Floquil Marker Pens in the track colors.  I use the Atlas code 83 track and is there some prep that has to be done to the track before the paint will adhere to the rail when I use the rust color for weathering?  When I apply it I really cannot see that there is any change in the rail color.  What am I doing wrong?

Craigslist has a real SD40 locomotive cab listed

Wonder what my wife will say when she sees this in the driveway?

XYZ Rairoad Tools

Just a note about the problem I had with XYZ Railroad Tools.  I did submit an investigation through my credit card company and I was refunded the purchase price.  The whole process did take a bit of time bur resolved.  Lesson learned, ask on the MRH forum if the company is someone you have not used in the past.

Track Ballast

Hi Jack from Star, Idaho.  Just a question to throw out there...Has anyone tried or had success at dying the Woodland Scenic's track ballast?  Seems that the black is way too dark and the grey is too light.  Just observing the color found on many of the rail lines here in Idaho I would like to have a ballast that is a dark charcoal grey.  The grey color Woodland Scenics sells always seems too light in color especially when photographed.  Could a person maybe use the product "Rit Color Dye"?

JL&T Railway Blog - BAPM Plastics...

Hi All,

Well today was a fairly quiet day on the layout, finished the remaining bench work on the west & south walls.  Put the plywood and plaster bases in, and a ran a small mixed freight in and added 6 tank cars to the consignment ready to head out (I'm really enjoying my little ops sessions!).

A productive weekend!!!

With some time this weekend I have been very productive...

My first thing was to work on a couple of articles for MRH...

It between glue and paint drying I worked on my layout. Which included hanging the last of my lights, painting the benchwork top and even laying down some flex track. I will be adding some CVMW ties to the Brooks-Scanlon loading track tomorow and may even get hings ready for the Code 83 rail.
