A Day (& Night) at Old Saybrook on the New Haven RR

One of the best things about modeling - especially prototype modeling, IMO - is the ability to create your own little time machine. I wasn't born until 1969, but on my layout it's the late 1940s.

PHX DesertOps.org 2016 this weekend

I was asked to have my layout on the Open House for this weekend.  1st time ever for the public.  Was told this is a good crowed to start with as my layout is operations only aka lots of plywood.  I Took the bait.

Will see how it goes.  I model operations so the GS&M should be a good fit.  I would normally pass,  but some twisting from a another layout owner that operates and I do respect convinced that this group cares less about looks and more about function.

Making a HO crosswalk

I had some trouble figuring out how to make a German crosswalk that looked correct in HO scale.

Here's my prototype on the workbench before I replicate this for real on the layout.

I made this with 5 mm correction tape between two strips of masking tape to get straight, rectangular ends of the stripes.

Robin Talukdar visits the BNML

Tonight I met one of my MRH friends; Robin Talukdar.

We enjoyed an evening of visiting and running trains, and of course that famous ALLAGASH LEMON CAKE.

Robin took the throttle for CN 532 in Morris. It took us a few hours of work but we did manage to get Morris switched and the train sorted and ready to continue south. Sadly by then Robin timed out and had to head back to Winnipeg for the night.

Table Setup which would work best?

Title says it all which design do you think out of these would work best for a design. Would it be possible to fit an 18" minnimum reversing loop in D or F or would that be to tight. Any ideas would be great.

Twin Cities Division NMRA Fall layout tours video

Come along for the tour of three layouts in the western suburbs of the Twin Cities. The TCD is part of the Thousand Lakes Region and hosts self guided layout tours several times a year. Two HO layouts and one O Scale narrow gauge make up the tour this time.

Thanks for watching.

Feeling Overwhelmed?

Last week, a friend of mine mentioned feeling a bit overwhelmed by the layout project he'd started. I think we've all probably felt that way at one time or another in the hobby. A while back, I went so far as to consider giving up the hobby entirely - or severely cutting back. Problem was, I'd already gotten WAY too far in with a half-basement's worth of benchwork and track and a wall full of unbuilt kits.

New post on my blog

Built the first section of a corrugated fence last night. Came out pretty good I think.
