Berrett Hill Conversion

I just converted switch machine controls on my existing layout to a recessed, lighted button type from Berrett Hill. An easy 10 minute operation and one where I will start from "scratch" as I work on the new West End of the railroad.

This week we are adding simple lighting to the scale house.

Decals for model figures?

Don’t know if anyone has thought about this.  Painting HO scale figures is a right royal pain in the butt.

I have 360, now about 180 unpainted H.O. figures from PREISER.  It takes me about 6 to 10 mins to paint each one, even on a production line basis – 20 figures at a time.

I was just wondering if anyone has thought about making a two, three or more piece decal set of: clothing (including workers in high vis clothing) hair, shoes, stockings/tights, and other items of clothing, as a two or three piece set of decals.

Looking for information on Atlas Master - N Scale -- EMD GP38

I would like to know if some one can tell me if the Atlas Master - N Scale -- EMD GP38 are out, yet.

The SKU numbers I'm looking at are 150-40002744, 150-40002745 and 150-40002746.

Thank you for your help,

Frank

On order

All track and turnouts are on order. Some is already at the house some is on its way and the turntable is on order for when it becomes available (expected later this month). Since I have nothing from my previous layout to reuse I'm having to buy everything but that's ok. Really the only thing that I would re use besides rolling stock is the old tech 2 transformer I had, and since I want DCC that wouldn't be used either. I ordered a Digitrax Zephyr xtra starter set and a digitrax pr3xtra usb programmer so that I can hook a computer up.

Detailing and painting Atlas GP7's

I went to the Bemrrc Swap meet saturday and bought a few bridges and cars for the railroad. I also got 2 Atlas classic GP7's, new in the box. $30. each. I have been wanting a couple so I could not pass these up. I ordered some "torpedo tube" roof mounted air tanks and winterization hatches for them. Now I have to figure out a paint scheme for my home road and even worse I still don't have a name for the home road. So it may be awhile before I add much to this thread. Still buried in railroad building. These will also eventually get loksound decoders.

Doing a Vinyl Valence

Time to do a valence - but traditional masonite construction would be too heavy to try and hang from my drywall ceiling - not to mention awkward to install. So I decided to try vinyl. Turns out, its pretty easy, and allows the valence to easily follow whatever curves your layout has. Click here for details on how to get started - and let me know if you have any helpful tips or suggestions as I proceed!

SPSF Meadow Sub: Ex-SP Kodachrome SW1500 - A Locomotive Detail and Painting Blog

A couple weeks ago, I embarked on yet another kodachrome repainting project for my proto-lanced SPSF Railway, this time an ex-SP SW1500.

What follows is my personal journal through all steps of this project.
