Varney’s peculiar “L’il Raskal”

Yesterday, I briefly paid visit to an antique store I hadn’t dropped by in quite some time. The prices there can be anywhere from brilliant to horrendous. Generally, if you want to get something for a reasonable price, look for stuff without a price tag on it. Anyhow, while exploring, I came across a little pile of HO trains sitting on a shelf- and since there wasn’t much I’d seen so far, I figured I’d just as well look at them.

L-Gauge Project

I've decided to once again visit the MRH forums! Been a while since I've been here, I always remember the community being wonderful, and the posts interesting- but life has had other plans for me, and unfortunately it's taken me away from the trains for a while. I've been trying to get them back into my life, but it's not easy at the moment.

That said, I've been working on a project!
(it involves LEGO, read on below for more on that)

Scratchbuilding a Trolley Work Car!

My, My have I been taking my sweet time announcing this one. Many of you may, or may not have already seen my thread/blog entry on the built of an O scale trolley truck from scratch. I had promised that I would create a new entry to share the build of the trolley that would use this scratchbuilt truck. [Note: You can see the build for the trolley truck here] And then, I proceeded to not do it.

Let’s build an O scale Trolley Truck!

For those of you who have been following along with my “Scratch building a Trolley Snow Plow” blog entry, this project is not, in fact, directly related. Think of it more as a little side project. Wheras the other blog deals with the project of building an entire double truck Wason snow plow, this blog is going to focus on a single trolley truck, for another car. Stay tuned...

Scratch Building an O Scale Trolley Plow

Early this week, a Pittman Freight Motor in O scale, that I had bought online, arrived in the mail. Seeing the size of the car, the detail, and how much fun it was to operate, made me realize that I really wanted to have more O scale trolley equipment. Unfortunately, there isn’t much out there that is readily available, and my preferred prototypes, line cars, are even rarer in model form than photographs of real ones! So I decided, for better or worse, I was going to build my own.

Gosh it sure has been a while, hasn't it!

My, how time flies! It feels like almost forever ago that I last logged into the MRH site. I didn't get tired of the wonderful MRH community, and I doubt I ever will, with such a wonderful crowd! No, the main contributor was my personal life- I don't wish to go into too many details, but I have spent the past few years struggling with a number of issues- some more temporary, others that will likely remain with me for life.

Bangor & Aroostook F3

Sorry to soil the day of any strictly realistic modelers, who might feel this doesn’t belong here, but I just finished work on a fun project, and I thought this might be a fun place to share it.

ELTCo - A backyard Two-Footer to be

Hello again, it's been a while since I've been on here. I'm currently in the process of getting into outdoor railroading. Not exactly model railroads though. This time, I'm interested in building a two footer. The line will be run off of household current run through an overhead, and the line will be mostly operated by trolleys once I can build some, but until then my project will be to a) build a compressed air locomotive, b) get a source of something decent to use for track, and c) work out a system of overhead which is safe, simple, affordable, and doable.

Otter Creek Railway: (yet another) returning to my HO railway ideas...

Hello again, it's been so very very long since I've been here, things have been rough for me. High school begun, new forms of stress, and personal matters are keeping me far busier than ever before. I even find it hard to set aside time for my art. However, recently, I found myself thinking about new equipment for my O gauge collection. Then, I started thinking about EMD BL-2s. Unfortunately, BL-2s in O gauge tend to be rather...    Ehh....

An interesting German Railway Relic

Hey all, been a bit since I've posted stuff, but I wanted to show you guys this little guy. My mom was visiting Germany this past week, and when she returned home, of course there was also an additional cardboard box with souvenirs and gifts for the family. Among my things was something specifically tuned to my railroad interests. An old battery operated railroad lantern from the Deutche-Bahn. After getting it open, I found a ancient corroded 2.5 gold lead-acid battery. How fun!!!
