Improving electrical pickup!

Photo tutorial of improving the electrical pickup on the newer Genesis locomotives from Athearn.  Also works for P2K, Atlas, Kato and others with this system.

I have been doing this for years now and it really helps improve the performance.

DCC Sound install in a Bachmann GP30

After attending the Amhearst Hobby Show and finding a few good deals (this is one of them) on sound decoders, I will install one in a Bachmann GP30 that was originally DCC only.  This is a straightforward install and although it is somewhat step by step, I see it as an overview on how I do it.  This enging was one of those purchases I made when I was just getting into DCC.  The engine always runs very well but I knew that a quality decoder would make a difference.   Just getting around to it now and I hope to show how I do it!

Greenville & Howland Paper. Work in progress

Working on some foreground scenes for my paper mill complex.  Still need to weather the heavy equipment but that will come in time.

The tracks at GHP is the eastern terminus for the railroad and uses both tracks in this area for switching.  The layout uses a "modified" double oval being that the main track is the outside loop and the passing track is the inside loop.  The passing track has almost all of the industries on the layout with the exception of the Town of Bownell which is the midpoint and has a few sidings there.

Weathering Cars

As everybody is really getting on board with weathering lately, I thought I would share a couple of cars that I have done recently.

11/11/17

I added this car to the list.  As you can see, I am trying oil paints as per the recent MRH article.  This is just the first layer as oils are very slow drying.  The oils I am using are a "value line" at  my local AC Moore and at only $3.99 a tube, it made the initial investment for 4 colors under $20 bucks.

Follow up results video.

I had posted this video kind of an afterthought the other day and I think it just got lost in the mix.  It really didn't explain my thought process on how I achieved these results so I decided to make a full "how To" after I had already done this locomotive.  This is just a short 2 min video showing just how well the older BB locos can run.
