Prototype information

Rio Grande freight operations

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew or could point me in the direction of info regarding operation on the standard gauge Moffat Line or Joint line circa 1950-1965.  I know it was considered a bridge route.  Does that mean no peddler or way freight?

Any info would be great.

Thanks,

David

Lac-Megantic Derailment

This story is getting worse and worse.

73 cars derailed and explode in what appears to be a runaway train incident.

A very sad day in the transportation industry.

Today is the day!  The Great Gathering takes place in the UK National Railway Museum at York. http://www.nrm.org.uk/PlanaVisit/Events/mallard75.aspx

On 3rd July 1938 at a place called Stoke Bank on the East Coast Main Line, the A4 Pacific Mallard, broke the record for a steam engine achieving a speed of 125.88 mph, a record held by the locomotive today.    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LNER_Class_A4_4468_Mallard

Decal sheets: which ones work best?

Looking at adding some decals to a crane I want to purchase. Going with the Santa Fe line for the "Palomar Glass train" I want to build. Any recommendations of which decals work best? looking for something like this:

I can get the cars unpainted on sale. Who makes these Santa Fe decals and font I guess? Woodland Scenics?

which decals to stay away from?

Recommendations?

Thanks.

More Crude Pipeline and Rail Articles

I just added a comment to my post

http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/14198

which includes more information about small refineries in North Dakota which are being built near the shale fields. There is also another article on pipeline construction. I think it's possible to combine all these elements together on a layout.

Understanding Operations

I went through my Shipper's Guide and got a list for the towns I am modeling. I am curious how these industries utilized the railroads to transport their goods or raw materials as none of the ones listed here had rail access. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. This would be mid-1950s specific.

* Agricultural Implements
* Banks
* Canning Factories (vegetables)
* Coal Dealer
* Creameries
* Flour, Feed, & Grist Mills
* Foundries
* Fruit & vegetable Dealers
* Grain & Feed Dealers
* Oil Dealers ( additionally does anyone know what the designation do. Stands for? )
