Blue Strip on Tank Car Ends?

I notice a lot of tank cars with blue paint in the upper quarter of the ends.

Does anybody know what the significance of this marking is?

Dallas, Texas...

I'm going to find myself in the Dallas, TX area (Plano/Richardson) for several days next week and I'm wondering what I'm going to do with myself while I'm not in training classes...

I see that there is at least one major railroad nearby, but I'm wondering what might be local of model railroading interest.  I do know of one hobby shop in the area, but I'm unsure if they are online only or not.

So - any suggestions (beyond staying out of the heat)?

Trains online magazine

Ok Joe,

So when will you be coming out with an online magazine about Trains. The real ones. Seems like a logical step. Something in the same line as "Trains" magazine.

I was out doing some rail fanning today and I came across this interesting pipe load on a tractor trailer.

Anybody ever seen pipe loaded this way before?

Steel mill video

This video is really riveting. There is action every frame, during one scene I was able to count 4 locomotives moving in the picture.

Indianapolis Union Station: A Rivet Counter's Dream

At the beginning of this week I was in Indianapolis, Indiana for company training and stayed just across from Union Station.  Now I know that's it's not modeling, but I also love the 1 to 1 scale trains and everything associated with them.  I especially love the grand architecture of many of the old railroad stations.  Here's some information from Wikipedia about Union Station:

Double heading steam locomotives

I am inquiring on the advantages of double head steam locomotive.  I completely understand the reasons for double heading diesel locomotive because they can be MU together and one crew can control many units. But what are the advantages of double heading steam locomotives, other than in helper situations?  Use of helpers is understood and is not where I am going.
