Good Enough: Reflection on the dangers of a "how-to" dominated hobby
It is not often acknowledged, but model railroading is a difficult hobby. Our projects are complex, time-consuming, and diverse in scope, requiring of us to be planners and engineers, carpenters and electricians, and artists and sculptors. We seek to create a miniature built environment and natural world with increasingly complex interactions and diversity. To even come close is just shy of a miracle, and only accomplished by very few among us.
Layout is up!!!
Finally!!!! Still have a few places to patch back up, but I can at least run trains. Stay tuned, more to come in November's update.
Mining scene update
Got back to work on my mining scene area. Completed one final building for around the mine area. Small freight house to hold the explosives. Also scratch built the headframe storage and access area.
Lights are turning on this weekend
I have invested in some Roomettes interiors with lighting for two buildings. I will start with the apartments as they are close to my just plug controllers. Doing a test on the first four rooms.
Continuing research and "A mans got to know his limitations...."
Research has been slow, I've had some troubles motivating myself, but have been moving forward....
The scope of my original ideas for a layout based on the T-NT area would require more space than I currently have, so I have been trying to pick a few scenes that will give the flavor but not become a life's work. I think my main focus becomes Main St in Tonawanda, as the NYC crosses both the Erie Canal and the Tonawanda Creek. Even this may be a bit ambitious, but I am drawing and erasing, and thing I can get some of this to gel.
Stuck in neutral - how to get going to work on my layout
Many of you know that my wife had a stroke last December and as her primary caregiver I've been very busy taking care of her since she is affected on her left side and need a lot of help.
Scenery time: Filling in the rocks
Time to move one to some more scenery and fill in a bare spot with rocks. I will be using both my own moulds and commercial ones to cast the rocks.
