A productive and eventful day
Since my last blog post detailing the coming work on my engine terminal, I've been working on other projects in the area, not the least of which was cleaning a lot of scenery gunk and oxidation from the rails where I can once again run trains. A big step towards ensuring my continuing level of sanity was finally getting the large and heavy 75 gallon aquarium out of my shop/office/train room and into storage. I drained it some months ago after losing the last of my aquatic livestock that I had been keeping for several years.
Should've known better...
Then to get involved with Arduino's and the like - they're very addictive and I love it!
The first time I discovered those little devils was when I read a post written by Geoff Bunza here in MRH. It was his SMA12 blog post (17 Channel Configurable Multifunction $5 DCC Decoder For Servos) and soon after his other posts were found, very interesting stuff altogether.
Shelf Layout Update - Simplifying the Simple
Thought there might be some folks out there interested in an update from Alco-land.
I know small and simple layouts aren't everyone's cup of tea, but it's how I enjoy our fun hobby...especially now that my current free time is VERY limited. Details and pics to follow below...
Screw It
I have essentially done nothing on my layout so far this year. Got a great track plan that you all helpfully commented on, but it is feeling overwhelming, too much to get started. Glad I didn't design a multideck plan!
So. Next steps?

3D Printing with an Anycubic Photon Printer
Ok, I'm going to get into the "additive manufacturing" mode with the Anycubic Photon printer.
I needed a faster computer to run Fusion 360 and one that has Windows 10 on it. I did not want to update my Windows 7 Professional software because I have software running for my CNC Sherline mill. So I purchased the computer equipment from Tiger Direct. Took a bit of time to get here due to the weather the past couple of weeks. So new screen, track ball and keyboard plus the computer itself.
The White Lion Railways, our first trains
(The day a wild animal became the leader of a railway, from left to right, Otto, Greenstar, and Driver) The day is July 13th, 2017, and there is a meeting going down on Northfolk and Southern railroad territory. It is between NS CEO, Mr. Monte, and the white lion, Greenstar, along with his two personal employees, Driver(real name, Kevin, prefers to go by Driver), and and his guard, Otto.
“Dream Layout”
An introduction:
So some years ago I had a chance to build a new house with my Parants. I am a bachelor and they were elderly at the time (last 60s early 70s).
So we build a largish house of about 2000sf and because they were elderly we built a ranch. It is a pure coincidence that this gave us a basement of about 32’x68’ inside dimensions.
My father models logging railroads in general and settled on the Mower Lumber Co in Cass WV. (Home to the prototype of the Bachmann Shay)
The White Lion Railways, who we are
