Steam era service facility "sand for locomotives"
Hi folks,
I am presently working on some of the models that I have for my engine terminal.
For the most part I have them placed where they make the most sense and it looks right to me.
But I have a question about the sand house and how they where serviced.
I have been looking though reference books etc, but I can't find the answer I am looking for.
Coaling tower needs one spur for unloading hoppers, Ash pit needs one spur for loading hoppers or gondolas.
Sand house? serviced by rail, truck, or hand.
Remembering, then Dismembering the Chaffee Branch
I recognize a lot of names here from long ago on the Atlas board. You might remember my old N Scale Chaffee Branch project. Just in case you've been losing sleep wondering whatever happened to it, here's your chance to find out!
The latest entry in the Bliggity Blog!
Enjoy!

Champ Decals closing
I just saw that Champ Decals, after winding down for several years, is ceasing to take orders on Sept. 30. I will miss them - they had the best choice of "classic era" decals, data, extra parts, and especially their private names. So it goes...

Stop signs for trains....
We have all seen mile markers, yard limit signs, even markers to signal horn blowing, but these are new to me. Yesterday, I watched a pair of GP40′s deliver 2 covered hoppers to Arizona Grain in Casa Grande. While running down the siding, the Geeps were stopping, waiting for the crossing gates to lower, and then rolling through the street. I noticed as I pulled away, a rectangular red sign that said STOP. Taking train pictures all my life, and I missed this detail?

Joe's Video series
Hey Joe,
I went to your website to look at some of your video's but everytime I try to go to them the link is broken.
I get a message that say the website declined to show this web page.
Did you move them to a new location? I am logged in also.
It would be great if you could check it out or better yet, help me out lol.
No matter what I try I cant get to them.
Thanks

Model trains and home appraisals...
Heres' one for you.
I am trying to get my home refinanced. The guy comes over to do the appraisal and tells the loan company that my garage is "unfinished." As a result, my loan did not go through.
Unfinished? My garage is is bewtter shape than the rest of my house. I think the idiot saw the wall down the center of the garage that the layout is attached to and thought that it was not complete. This guy was dumb. How about asking me. He asked about everything else. Frankly, I would really like to break a couple of his fingers, but that part of my life is over.

White Pass & Yukon Route
A "girlfriend" of mine was on an ocean cruise of Alaska recently and, knowing I was "into" railroading, picked up a booklet and postcard for the WP&YR for me. She just gave them to me this morning, so I thought I would share it with the members. It is a very interesting booklet and beautiful postcard, but I was then prompted to visit their web site and - wow - they really have some nice narrow gauge operating picks and there is a railfan and modeling section I am wanting to share:

Does anyone else keep their old Walthers Catlaog's for use for Reference
I have too many books! LOL It's the kind of problem most modelers like to have, but in all seriousness, I am consdiering getting rid of at least all editions of the Walthers HO Catalog that are prior to 2010. I was wondering if anyone else keeps them around for use as reference to kits that are otherwise no longer in production, or if they just throw them away. I have been known to look up a kit once in a while (maybe once or twice a year) but is that information worth the sizeable space it takes up on the library shelf.
Hot Trains Video
Just received my copy of Hot Trains #1. Although I am not an ALCO fan the video was great. I especially liked following the Oak Hill Turn and its switching moves. Fantastic scenery too. I have also been following the BC&SJ through OPS Videos #3 & #4.
