Modeling general discussion

Jewlers files/needle files, etc.

I'm looking for a better brand of needle files.  I have several files now, but do not know the brand names of them.  I think most were purchased at a train show a few years back, and are off-brand made in China types.  I have one file that is noticeably higher quality and works much better than the others, but again I don't remember the make of it, or where I got it. Perhaps some of you folks that use needle files regularly, and have a preferred brand can point me in the right direction.

Logging and Truck Show

Went to a truck show out at McLean Mill today. This is Canada's only steam operated sawmill that has survived. It's operational again and has been for some time. There was a truck show today, but I spent most of my time taking pictures of the loggine equipment and a bit of train equipment. Lots of close-ups of detail.

They actually yarded logs with a high-line and steam donkey, then loaded them on a truck with a gas punk. Anyway, I hope you find the pictures helpful, or at least interesting.

Here's the link to the Photobucket album.

A Request

I would really like to be able to create RSS feeds for individual MRH blog threads (i.e. set up a feed for all comments on a particular post) and also for all comments on selected forum topics.

That would help me stay on top of items I'm really interested in, and bring me back to MRH a lot more often.

Thanks for your consideration,

Al

Manufacturers - the business side. . .

Here's a blast from the past. . . (see video).

I remember when Athearn used to photoshop their trains on real track/train scenes.

I think ExactRail and BLMA do the best job of marketing.  Since Athearn was bought by Horizon, they are doing a good job as well.

Modeling on the cheap

Everyone wants to stretch their hobby dollar.  Here's one afternoon's work with Pollyscale and some Krylon spray on an old $2 AHM snap-tight kit from a swap meet.  The depot will be a placeholder at Oakhill on Charlie Comstock's Bear Creek and South Jackson.

30th National Narrow Gauge Convention-St. Louis

Anyone attending the Narrow Gauge Convention this week?  I plan on attending at least one day of it.

Finally - Video of the Utah Belt. . .

I ran across this Tracks Ahead video on youtube.  It contains about 5 minutes of Utah Belt video.  The Utah Belt section starts at 8 minutes into the video.

Enjoy!

The SP gods are smiling. . .

I just got an e-mail announcement from ExactRail.  They are coming out with a really SWEET Bay Window Caboose.

Ah - I miss the SP and the days of a caboose at the end of the train.

PS:  I don't work for ExactRail - so this is not a plug for them.

IHC back on radar

I heard a while back on the Model Railroader forum that International Hobby Corp. went under for good, and closed up shop (it was supported by all product listings being "Out of Stock" at the time)

I'm happy to say that, after checking on their website, it seems like they are back in action. There are still some un-avalable sections and products, but the passenger cars, all steam locomotives, and the SD-24 have in-stock product listings.
