Second American model railroad convention in france

I just come from the second edition of the french American model railroading convention. I was a great train show with nice layouts. I was member of the staff of the meetting.

Here is a video of the show, hope you will enjoy it :

Pictures of my layout

Here are some pictures of my layout. It is just starting to look like it is finished and not a a Plywood Central. I have ground foam and grass mat pieces on a good part of the layout now.

I'm going to model this locomotive as former PRLX 2213, which is where it actually went in real life after it was an NS unit.

need help choosing a new power pack for my layout

ok so im running an ho scale life like layout on a 4-feet long my 3 and a half feet wide piece of foam board that sits on a sturdy folding table. sorry best setup i could do with my limited funds.

Photo backdrop adhesion problems

I mounted a 24" by 96" photo-backdrop on 1/8 inch fiberboard with Krylon or 3 m spray adhesive.  It was fine (and looked great ) for several months.  Now the photo has started to "blister." See attached photo.  By blisters I mean that there are a number of places where the photo no longer adheres and it sticks out in a bump.  The bumps or blisters are an inch or so wide and 5-12 inches long.  Any idea why this is happening. I do have humidity problems.

Monroe, WA Prototype Modelers meet photos (with the amazing kpack)

Brian Rutherford recently posted some photos of the May 21 Pacific Northwest Railroad Prototype Modelers meet on his pbase site:

Like all good RPM attendees, I finished my model of the big orange wheel on the flatcar late the night before.

Changing Wheels

The other day I was in Dillon, SC, to watch some trains, and happened to hear the local trainmaster talking with the dispatcher about getting time on the siding in Dillon to change out a wheel set on a car there. This is what happened.

Insurance Idea

As I would be going to the States and Canada for awhile I thought that I
had better think about insurance for my trains as I have a fair amount of
money invested in them, so I decided to photograph all of them so that I
have a record for myself and the insurance company if needed. I placed a
piece of track on the table and photographed the first one, it didn't look
so good, something was missing, it needed some sort of background, so
I started to think what could I use, so I came up with this idea.

Electro-magnetic decouplers

I have installed a Kaydee electromagnetic decoupler because I need to decouple in a hard to reach location.  I have been working with them for some time and am thoroughly frustrated.  Here's the situation.  One engine (a GE 70 tonner) only decouples in forward, the second, an atlas alco S-2, only decouples in reverse -- both DCC if that matters.  They have identical new kaydee whisker couplers and their "air hoses" all just touch the gauge.

Any idea of what I can do to address this?

Operation Reflections of a Newbie

This past weekend I attended Port City Rails 2016 in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. A joint convention of the Maritime Federation of Model Railroaders (MFMR) and the North East Region of the NMRA (NER) Part of the festiviites were operating sessions on three different layouts.

I had never operated before but was assured by several folks that all would be well.

That doesn't describe the positive experience I had. It was fantastic.
