Southern Pacific Coal Cars
I'm looking for information about what type or types of cars the Southern Pacific was using to carry coal on its Rio Grande Division between Tucumcari, NM. and Douglas, Az. during the late 1940's. I have Tony Thompson's books covering SP freight cars but nothing states, specifically, what cars were used. Conversely, articles about hauling coal say very little about the equipment used. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thrift store score
I just bought all of this for a 20 at a thrift store. My question is what is the best way to clean them? I think they have decals. Some need a little help.

Plastruct HO Spiral staircase
I have had an order in for this item with Plastruct for over a year now and I do not see them making these anytime soon. The machine they made them on is still not in operation. I would really like to complete the C & O coal tipple at Handley Yard however without the spiral steps I can not as it makes the tower. what it is. It was an unusual design including the exposed angle iron bucket lift. Most are covered in a concrete shell. So I am asking everyone to check their scrap boxes to see if they have any. Much thanks in advance.
Demo Locomotives Ideas Wanted
New to hobby. I have 2 FM H15-44 DCC locomotives that I love (Atlas #9578) w/ TCS A6X decoder. They are in the FM green color. From my research (please correct or add value) they date from 1948/50. I am looking for creative ways to integrate them or create a back story for my 1959 era layout. I can run and enjoy them as is, however, I was hoping someone had a good suggestion for setting a scene or other idea. Thanks in advance!
