It was posted on YT a day ago. You may not have seen it.
Speed Graphic Film and Video uploaded it. I don't know them but I know they're finding some real nuggets out there.
If you're modelling pre-war harbour ops... this will give you some great insight.

sanding smooth
when using squadron green putty how abd and what do you use for a smooth surface that doesn't show when painted?
Grade Compensation
I was looking for values for Grade Compensation for grade curves and didn't find much definitive. There was a post at http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/11/t/221186.aspx (9th post) that had some info I was able to glean what I wanted.
From the information there I was able to figure out the grade compensation seems to be 2784/SCALE * RADIUS -- that is assuming it is in fact a linear calculation.
Can anyone confirm that this equation actually works? The magic number 2784 looks to be the appropriate constant from the info in that post.

Weathering/spraying Peco insulfrog turnouts - Before I go too crazy....
It's getting very close to the time for me to start weathering my track. I have about 1200 ft of visible flex track and 86 visible turnouts. 84 of those are Peco insulfrog #6 or #8 turnouts. I am starting to theorize the most efficient method for weathering all these turnouts so I watched some videos, read some "how to tutorials". It looks like most people use strips of tape to cover the points and pivots and then after the spray paint (or airbrush paint) dries they come back and touch up the taped areas with a brush.

I've been thinking about dioramas
The other day when I was visiting Michael Rose we were talking about the possibly of moving my layout in the future. Since I had moved previously and had to tear down (and throw away) most of my layout (except Buck & Loretta's) I built my present layout as sectional in the hopes of making a possible future move easier.

Track plan suggestions for Walthers' Modern Warehouse/ Cold Storage Ware House
I recently acquired both the Walthers Modern Warehouse and the Cold storage Warehouse. I'm trying to come up with s track plan to use both of these large (9x20") structures on a siding or sidings that would look reasonable. Does anyone have any good suggestions or or track layout that they may have done already?
IT may have to be on a peninsula, as it would be a shame to hide the non-rail side of the buildings where the truck docks are.

Walthers HO 90 ft Turntable
I've always wondered why the Walthers 90 ft. turntable had such a heavy duty girder compared to it's length. I think I determined the reason. In the July 1980 Model Railroader there is a drawing for a 66 ft. turntable but the drawing is in S scale. It appears that Walthers may have used the drawing for the model but didn't note that the drawing was S scale. So the Walthers 90 ft HO turntable is actually an S scale 66 ft turntable.
JB Weld Plastic Bonder
The other day I was at the local WalMart picking up some of my favorite CA and I saw this hanging on a hook near the Locktite.
What are metal wheels on scale model railcars made of?
This question came up in a discussion this weekend.
Could they be milled stainless (nonconducting) or steel, nickel silver plated brass or another silvery appearing metal? They don’t seem to rust and are generally conductive (or we might hear some issues of “wipers” not working.) Do different manufactures use different materials?
Thanks for your thoughts and knowledge.
