July MRH and Running Extra release ***updated to July 2***

The July issue(s) won’t be out until July 1st JULY 2nd this time —more articles than ever this month so we’re taking a few extra days to put a ribbon on the issues. Note, Running Extra is always a day later, so it will release July 3rd.

Rob Spangler's MRH layout cover story has almost double the photos and captions of our typical layout story, too.

Let’s hope you find the wait worth it!

New discovery -- ad blockers are a problem for MRH **solved***

Well, well, well.

One of the reasons, it appears, for advertisers to be leaving MRH is because of ad blockers.

If you read our online magazine or if you click the download link and just read the PDF in your browser (instead of downloading it as we expect you to with the download option), then ads are blocked if you have an ad blocker.

Most modern browsers come with a built-in ad and popup blocker now -- and when you update your browser, it comes with an ad/popup blocker that's automatically enabled.

Change to Running Extra -- individual issue price going up

Effective immediately, the individual issue price of Running Extra is going up to 2.99 per issue. This is still a great price, at ~300 pages this is just one cent a page! Compare that to the paper magazines that are around $7.00 per issue, running 80 pages, and at least 40% ads.

Subscription pricing remains the same: $19.99 for 12 issues, now a 45% savings -- and this month we've got a special going!

Main Track Authority Overview

Several people and websites have put out some operations overviews lately.  I thought I would take a shot at a main track authority overview, so here's something I whipped up today.  Its several pages on my website.  As I get time I will add some pictures and diagrams.

There are 4 parts:

Superiority of Trains : TT&TO

Superseding the Superiority of Trains :  Rule 251, Interlockings and CTC

Post Superiority of Trains :  TWC and DTC

Live videos from the Salt Lake City National Train Show?

Would anyone be interested in some short quick live videos from the Salt Lake City National Train Show in July?

We could even take requests -- the idea is "What's ___ from vendor ___" and we will walk over and shoot a short 5 min video and ask them!

Anyone interested in that?

New Running Extra value-add?

We're looking at ways to up-the-ante on Running Extra to make it far-and-away much more than MRH ever was.

What we're thinking is making Running Extra much more interactive and changing the tagline on the cover from More modeling every month to The interactive modeling magazine.

The idea is that each issue will include a questionare where you can directly request topics that you feel you need more info on to help you achieve your model railroading goals. To the degree that we can, we will seek out answers to those requests by commissioning specific articles to address those needs.

June MRH and RE?

Are MRH and RE coming out this weekend or later?

Sand blasting medium

In the March, 2018 What's Neat feature, Jason Quinn used black sandblasting medium as coal for hopper loads.  While I've seen coal slag sandblasting medium available, the only place near me sells copper slag medium.  It's black, but I'm wondering what Jason's medium is - coal or copper slag?

Thanks,

Jeff
