Raspberry PI, JMRI, NCE Powerhouse Pro, Android, Engine Driver

I have had JMRI for quite awhile now and just recently I took advantage of that to successfully try to use it for wireless train control for my NCE Powerhouse Pro. I downloaded the free Engine Driver for both my Android phone and my Kindle from enginedriver.mstevetodd.com (also available at Google Play). I have JRMI installed on my Raspberry Pi computer and gave it a shot. Worked exactly as the instructions in Engine Driver said it would, though to get at the Tools/Throttles/Start WiThrottle Server, I had to open PanelPro3, not DecoderPro3.

JMRI/DecoderPro issues

On Windows 10, my Decoder Pro has been w DecoderPro orking fine for a long time in conjunction with an NCE Power Cab.  When I booted the laptop today, Kasparsky noted an important update on Java so I downloaded it. While at it,  I checked JMRI and found an update there, too. Downloaded it and ran the install check utility. All was fine.

Goldfield Mercantile

Monster Modelworks makes some really nice kits and their 3 story starter kit is available with a laser printed sign.  I ordered one with Goldfield Mercantile for the sign and painted and assembled it this weekend.  By the second decade of the 20th century, many buildings in these Nevada mining towns were being made from brick or stone as the wood buildings tended to burn down with some frequency, so I thought this would make a good contrast to the many frame buildings on the layout.  Here is a photograph of an existing building still standing in Goldfield.

Westhaven Industrial Rwy. : Control Panel Buttons

I had an idea and acted on it, now am wondering if I did the right thing. My turnout throwing system needs only a SPST switch. I decided on a rectangle rocker switch as shown here:

Then realized that might not look right on a control panel. Here is a visual mockup:

Concrete Building Piers - Foundation Parts

Has anyone seen a source for cast concrete foundation piers in HO scale?  I'm speaking about the precast concrete structures - typically about 18" square at the base, tapering to about 12" square at the top, designed to carry the structure of a raised wooden floor system?  Any suggestions appreciated before I go try to cast them myself in Hydrocal.

Thanks

Slow motion switch machine with DCC

Hi all,

In last newsletter form MRH i saw advertising to MRServo. OK, it is not that bad device, little expensive, but why not. I done lot of experiments with servo. You can see some of my servo decoders, some of them have NMRA certification etc (you can buy them with various sellers in EU). But I can not say I'm satisfied with using servo as a switch machine (especially in mode when it trying to operate same as tortoise).

Bachmann RF-16 decoder replacement

I'm looking for recommendations on decoders to replace the noisy stock decoders that are in my two  Bachmann RF-16 Sharks. I'm not interested in adding sound to these engines. I'd just like them to run smooth and quiet.

Thanks in advance.

(The lens I had wouldn't allow the picture to be taken any closer)

Not sure if anyone else has posted something like the above picture. It was taken in a rural area with some big industries that have large private rail yards. The industries are chemical and farm related the partial building in the picture is a PROCOR maintenance facility.

Problem with Woodland Scenics Earth Colours

I'm very disappointed that I used Woodland Scenics Earth Colour to colour the terrain on my layout.

Today I started applying some static grass on white glue, but the glue is reacting to the surfaces coated with Woodland Scenics Colours - it is curdling and not adhering to areas that were coated with the Woodland Scenics product, as seen here turning white and separating from the coated surface.
