Brass Hallmark CF 7
Recently came upon my latest engine, a nice brass "Hallmark CF 7" Santa Fe had most of these, they were F 7's redone with a GP Cab, this unit runs well after a bit of cleaning, Grinds a bit louder than my other stuff but like to see it run.

Who makes HO 30"-33" roof ladder grab irons? -- for heavyweight passenger cars
Detail Associates makes a nice 24" wide one, #6603, but I need some that are approx. 30"-33" for a Santa Fe baggage-express car. The Walthers Heavyweight Chair Car, #932-10352, includes one (see photo). I need four so I will take them from four kits but would like to have more for other cars. I'm sacrificing the chair cars anyway to get the steam-ejector A/C units and other parts for Suydam brass car bodies. These are for my 1939 ATSF California Limited model -- details are posted elsewhere in this forum.

Yo whats up? Monsterrailroad here!

I know a lot of you out there know who I am and all but I still wanted to introduce myself. I am Al Mayo I live in Norwich, Ct. I do a lot of HOW TO videos of weathering and everything model railroading related. I do a lot fo work on Youtube. I have the most fun making videos and using my videos sort of like forum topics to be discussed. I am sort of the Bad boy of model railroading aka the Tupac of model trains.
Oregon Rail Supply Signal Heads
Has anyone built a working Oregon Rail Supply Signal Head? Wondering how to wire a working version, gonna be hooking it up to a digitrax SE8C, thanks.

Wiring a DCC wye into a reverse loop
I think I may have a unique situation that has been bouncing around in my head for a couple years.
On my layout I have the main deck with a "wye" that represents Dotsero Cut-Off on the D&RGW. From the main leg of the "wye" runs down (no-lix) to staging which represents Salt Lake City. The problem I might have is at the end of staging (SLC) I have a reverse loop to facilitate turning trains, especially passenger trains, for a return trip back to Denver.
DCC Automation. . .
Can DCC do this. . .
I am in the process of designing my layout and I wanted to automate it for continuous running. The design is point to point with reverse loops at each end. The reverse loops are not a problem as there are DCC modules that control polarity of reverse loops but can the turnout at the throat of the reverse loop be automatically controlled when the train enters and leaves the loop so that trains can run continuously with no human intervention?

Article Ideas/Suggestions?
In my various yahoo groups & forums that I peruse I've noticed complaints about MR magazine getting away from the more detailed modeling topics like scratch building Locos & Rolling stock.
I thought why not suggest this to MRH since MR has a different goal for their publication. I for one enjoy their magazine but nevertheless I am interested in how to get started in scratch building of Locos particularly in N-scale.
UNW Monroe Train Show February 6 & 7
Just wanted to let all of you know about a really great train show coming up. Our club, United NorthWest Model Railroad Club is hosting our 19th annual Model Train Show and Swap Meet on Ferbruary 6 & 7, 2010 at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, Monroe, Washington. There will be 250 vendor tables and 25 layouts. We also have clinics and how-to demonstrations. As in the past, proceeds of the show are given to a charity. This year (as last year), the show benefits Snohomish County 4-H.
Mainline, Interchange, Sidings & Spurs - Rail codes and roadbed profiles. Where, When and Why?
OK, I have decided I will use ME non-weathered track on my HO layout. I was getting ready to order a bunch of code 83 flex track and rail for turnouts, when something Charlie Comstock wrote in another thread came to mind.
Charlie's post reminded me of the different rail sizes (codes) that are available. I can choose between code 100, 83, 70, and 55! So many choices...what to do?
Thinking about the codes also reminds me that the sub roadbed profile often changes between say, mainline and spur tracks, but what goes where?
