Fresh from the workbench...
Hi friends,
today an update on the engine shed (Pikestuff) and the tool shed (BLMA).
Afther the basecoat (Tamiya neutral grey FX-53) and final coat (Tamiya Sky XF-21) I brushpainted the details,... doors, downspouts etc. etc., with acrylics from model color (fast on the drying and easy to bring on).

California Dreaming in the Great State of Hawaii
This is an older iteration of my current layout. Basically it is a dog bone at grade disguised as a double track main.

Jewlers files/needle files, etc.
I'm looking for a better brand of needle files. I have several files now, but do not know the brand names of them. I think most were purchased at a train show a few years back, and are off-brand made in China types. I have one file that is noticeably higher quality and works much better than the others, but again I don't remember the make of it, or where I got it. Perhaps some of you folks that use needle files regularly, and have a preferred brand can point me in the right direction.

22 Stories Up - Building the Barre Branch in Paper
A continuation to story I began to tell in Modeling 22 Stories Up, this blog is intended to follow my progress of the actual layout's construction.
Magazine background color
Just scanned thru the latest issue of MRH and I find it is very difficult to read when the page background in in black. Might i suggest black not be used.
Thanks for the great magazine otherwise.
Atlas Gold Series DCC programming problems
Recently my brother purchased an Atlas Gold Series Diesel loco which comes factory-installed with DCC and sound. After changing some of the sound CVs, we found that the loco would not respond when applying the throttle. Sounds worked fine, but no locomotion. In DC mode, locomotion was fine. Resetting to factory defaults did not help.

WPM meet
Western Prototype Modelers meet is in San Bernardino, CA on Sept. 18. Anyone going?
http://www.westernprototypemodelers.org/
(I just had a glitch in my schedule, so I won't be there ; It was fun last year, and I took the train to get there, and walked all of 150 feet from the train to the entrance.)
Winter deciduous trees?
I am looking for a way to make deciduous trees without leaves; okay, maybe a few stickers, like I often see on Oak trees in the winter.
Does "Chapter 14: From the ground up - realistic deciduous trees made fast" from the "Model Railroad Volume 5 - Scenery & bridges - pt 2" DVD cover the winter version?
Is there a previous thread that talked about trees in winter?
Bachmann's Narrow Gauge Mallet even for HO Scale?
We examine Bachmann's narrow gauge mallet and find uses for the loco other than On30 at:
www.55n3.org/locomotives/mallet/
The Mallet comes close to the plans of this 1906 Great Northern 2-6-6-2 in HO scale. Just needs new domes, cab fittings and the tender narrowed.
We also look at in other scales.
