JL&T Layout Expansion of 2014...

Ok guys so here will be the new thread chronicling the Layout Expansion to the existing shed that holds the JL&T.

The primary purpose of the extension is to house the contents of our current garage attached to our home, this is being converted to a therapy/playroom for our eldest son Lachlan who is autistic and intellectually disabled.

Narrow Gauge Couplers

Okay you narrow gauge folks just trying to see who is using Kadee 714 couplers and who is using Kadee 178 couplers. While I was at Durango I was told that the D&RGW used standard gauge couplers on their equipment (I wasn't aware that there was such a thing as narrow gauge size couplers). I'm asking because I bought a Blackstone K27 and it has the 714 couplers but I'd like to use the 178 instead. just wanted to see if anyone else has any input or info that they'd be willing to share.

Thanks!!!

DCC Lighting Help

I have a pair of second hand N-scale Kato SD-40-2's that came equipped with Digitrax decoders.  I'm assuming that they are DN1631 decoders and further assuming that they might be DN1631K1C decoders as that is the Digitrax decoder currently available for this locomotive.

I've successfully reset both of the decoders using the DV8 008 entry.  The chips went back to the default address of 003, the acceleration and deceleration settings went back to zero and I assume everything else went back to 'normal'.

Modern Rivarossi Wheels

So My First Time Posting. Got a problem with wheels.

I recently dug out my 2 old Krauss-Maffei ML 4000 diesels to upgrade to DCC. This was actually an easy upgrade. My first attempt at installing a decoder. Talk about a lot of space in the shell! 45 minutes and I couldn't wait to get to the club meeting where we have a programing track and JMRI upstairs in the club meeting room. All went well except for the volume, but that is for another posting in another category. Anyway, all went well.

Scenery work on Red-Rock section

While summer takes a -short- break in Germany, I had a little time to spend on my layout. This weekend I managed to finish the grade crossing and some basic ground cover on the Red-Rock section.
I also painted the future track side transfer and depot building using an airbrush and flat gray acrylics.

Proposed Track Plan Insight welcome

Here is my proposed track plan for my shelf layout. I am open to any ideas, suggestions, or any issues I might not be seeing. I am going to have staging cassettes for the top left and at the interchange at the bottom. Eventually when this gets finished I can expand on the left side with another 4' x 9' shelf with a 4 foot cassette to connect the 2 shelfs across the sliding door.

Athearn genesis MP15AC issues. FIXED

Hello all. Have an Athearn genesis MP15AC that runs erratically. It stalls and runs every few steps. Anyone have issues with this model?. What to check?

Maybe have to clean the wheel pickups but I don´t know how to disassemble the trucks.

TT scale boxfile diorama

In the British small-layout scene, boxfile layouts are extremely popular. Outside the UK, this kind of small layouts is almost unknown. This might be due to the fact that the real boxfile seems to be a pure British product that is hardly sold outside the UK. However, since I like that concept very much, I was seaching for an alternative solution. I finally found it with the German made organizer boxes of the brand Semikolon. I took a rather small box of the size 33 cm x 25 cm (13" x 10"). For my needs, I modified the original boxfile concept.
