Use Of Slugs

I am interested in establishing the time frame for when the prototype started the developing the use of slugs. Jerry Hampton

decoder problems

I have two decoders that are not responding to the motor commands from the Power Pro. One decoder is a TCS and the other is a Tsunamie.  Both of the decoders respond the the motor commands from the power cab.

Sometimes I have to turn the Power Pro on two to five time to get the throttles and locomotives to act right. Am I trying to power too many locomotives, ( I do have a bunch of locomotives on the track) or is there something else I am doing wrong?

Detail on Coach Cars

My tail sign coach cars for the El Cap train are almost finished.  The two cars are detailed but one is slightly dirty and will receive some more weathering and the other one is fairly clean.

strange happenings

I am having trouble with two of my decoders.  One is a Tsunami, and one is a TCS.  Both stopped taking motor commands from my Power Pro, but still take motor commands from the Power Cab.  I have tried the resets from the DCC cheat card as mentioned in the MP15 question.  The other locomotives act normal.

The only other thing I have noticed, the Power Pro sometimes has to be turned on more than once for every thing to work properly.  Sometimes the Power Pro acts normal on the first power up, and sometimes it takes up to four or five power cycles.

CGI downloads--How does this work?

In a recent post about asphalt roads, one of the replies talked about CGI images and referenced this website http://www.cgtextures.com/textures.php?t=browse&q=1939 I love the area of rust! Excellent way to make some rolling stock rusty. I'm sure to many of you this may be as easy and obvious as breathing air, but I'd love to know how this works!

Proto 2000 PA problems

I have a Proto 2000 PA circa 1999. It has performed flawlessly for years. Recently it has a problem when pulling a train. It bucks like one might expect with dirty track or a spit axle (I've replaced many of them with my vast Proto fleet). I took it apart and cleaned the truck towers and relubed the gears (I believe with Labelle No. 108). It still does the same thing. The unit has been DCC'd with an 8 pin plug, program and play decoder many MANY years ago. Can anyone lead me in a different direction?

Code 55, RP25, and HO?

Looking for the voices of experience here, please.

I'm thinking of laying all of the track for my new layout in code 55.  It's HO, standard gauge, and code 55 is the closest readily available rail to what I know was used on the railroad, at least in 1917.  I'm guessing that it wasn't much different in 1940, and in any case it would definitely give it that lightly built short line feel.  If I do it, all the track (including turnouts) would be hand laid using PC ties and/or glue, so no spike heads to worry about.

Making up a train - prototype

Thanks to Chuck Davis who sent me this link: It explains and depicts the operational moves of building a freight train. Very cool.

Cab Interior Photos for SD40-2W?

Does anyone have detail photos of the cab interior from a CN SD40-2W ?

GP38-2W or GP40-2W would be fine also ;)

Deep cuts in 2" foam bench top that is not reinforced with wood

As many of you know my new railroad will be using unreinforced 2" foam as the top surface for the benchwork.  By that I mean the foam is glued directly to the benchwork frame without any supporting wood - see the picture below:
