Modeling topic

Whats happening with Atlas?

Perhaps a year ago I read several forum discussions about Atlas changing its distribution network or some such thing an supplies were going to be limited. Here it is a year later and still my LHS can not get any items from Atlas. Does anyone know what is or has been going on with them?

Retail N Scale structures - not to scale???

So I have been looking on eBay and considering whether to buy there or from the retail sites any structure kits or pre-built structures.  I am modelling in N scale.

Which Weathering Powders?

Which brands and which colors do you prefer for your needs?

I've never purchased any before and have found a few three paks of colors from Tamiya at the LHS, but I'm not sure it's the colors I'd want for weathering model trains.  Looking for feedback.

East River Fuel & Lumber

Finally finished the East River Fuel & Lumber Company in the Green Bay industrial section on my CNW Peninsula Div HO layout. The first one is how it was before.

Determining how much ballast you will need?

I have been trying to get an approximate answer on this for quite some time. It seems nobody knows. The usual answers I get are like:

- I just buy more when I run out

- I have a 5 gallon pail and it's all I'll ever need.

- I have a box if it, and don't think it will do my whole layout.

My problem is this:

Something You Don't Often See

Pacing videos of British steam locomotives.

Here, a BR Standard Class 4MT 2-6-0 76079 moves out on "The Cambrian", a mainline excursion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzzhFnk6ZYA  You won't hear it on this clip, but the loco is equipped with a chime whistle.

And here Castle class 5043 with the return segment of a Bristol-Plymouth excursion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4r5SklgMCU

Yes, You Can Build Models

The Armchair just got a turbo.  Procrastination be damned, full speed ahead!  Here in Yuma, Arizona, summer is when we don't get out too much and I am excited to announce a new endeavor for me, producing on-line model kits with complete step by step instructions using full size templates to fabricate required details.  I will be needing some Beta test builders in the next weeks so keep an eye on the blog for frequent updates.

Engine terminal redo.

Started redoing my engine terminal. First thing was to build a sanding rack. Still has to be painted, decal and weathered. Next is to redo the coaling tower and find a more modern water tower.
