New Garage HO Layout Design
Hi, just finished my layout design number (heaps). This one looks more of a 'goer' than all the other stalled attempts, to me at any rate. I would really appreciate some expert criticism though.
Plan is drawn in metric units (mm). Grid is 300mm x 300mm (close to US 12").
Cheers,
Bill
Painted & Weathered Tie Plates as seen in May Product Showcase
In the May 2012 Product Showcase, my company Monster Model & Laserworks, had O scale and HO scale Tie Plates listed on page 114 & 118.
Here are some photos of them painted and weathered by me... Jimmy Simmons
You can find them at www.monstermodelworks.com

Backdrop
I recently purchased a custom backdrop from Backdrop Junction (MRH advertiser) Because my layout is built to allow moving I wanted the backdrop to be moveable as well. I could not attach it to the wall or other backing surface and have it moveable.
The long hanging support is laminated of two layers of 1/8” plywood 3 inches by 12 feet. The backdrop is 24” by 12‘ printed on matte paper
The pictures should show the method.

Brick and Mortar websites.
Just a quick question for everyone to chime in on, especially hobby shop owners!
Question:
Why do most brick and mortar shops have such crappy websites! No information other than a phone number! No pictures of their business location both outside and inside! No photos of the staff or owner! If they have online shopping it is difficult to navigate at best, and most items are "out of stock".
Where to find historical railroad maps?
Good morning, gang -
I'm new to the hobby and new to the forum, but thought you all could help me with a question. I've decided to model my hometown, Rochester, NY, in the 1940's. From the information that I can find, at the time there were 5 or more railroads operating in the area at that time. I can't tackle all of them at once, so would like to find maps of the railroads operating at that time. Any idea where to start? I've looked at Google Earth, but the historical imagery only goes back as far as 1994, and there have been tremendous changes, even since then!

50's Reference Pictures
I have been searching for more 1950's reference pictures relating to any west coast railroads.
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or own any books they consider to be good references for the 1950's. I have googled the topic several ways and usually come up with basically the same content over and over.
I have books...but you can only buy so many when trying to balance the cost of books with purchase of DCC and other high ticket items.
I have also tried the library system but not much there either...small town.
Do Layouts have resale Value?
The recent discussion on building a layout in a shipping container raises the question of if there is any market for layouts in containers or in any form. It would seem that famous layouts get scrapped and only a few bits are saved.
