Anyone using a modern work order system for operations?
Just curious to know if anyone out there has implemented a modern prototypical style work order system for switching industries using local trains? I have seen what a class 1 railroad crew uses for for a work order when switching industries in real life. I am thinking I would like to implement a similar system on my own layout over a system like the the car card system.

hare trigger
Hi everyone
Kind of a simple question that I have. How far can you make the two gaps in the rail for the trigger and throw rails from the switch that will have the Hare?
Also does it matter if the gaps are on the other side of a second switch wth a regular tortoise on the same rail as the switch that has the Hare, I guess what I'm saying is can I cut the gaps in the rails for the trigger rails any where I wish?
Thanks
Lynn

Early Stage of layout planning
I am posting up a layout plan that is in the early stages of developement. The room I have is in the basement and is currently used to store household stuff, mostly stuff we boxed up and moved from our previous house 1.5 years ago. I have to do some wiring, lighting and sheetrock, along with going through and removing some stuff before I can start building a railroad. In the meantime I am starting some planning, while I sort out and make room.
switch stand location?
Dumb Question Day: On a single track line with a siding, which side of the main would the switchstand normally be?

How absurd
I defy anyone to accurately replicate this on their layout and make it work.
I know I've seen outback preservation railways on TV get like this, but that's due to a lack of resources. This is just plain stupid.

Squirrel Creek [Sawmill]
just realized that I've been a member here for over 5 1/2 years, and have posted virtually nothing, lol
any ways, now 15 months into the new [second] layout, and did a bit of detailing on the sawmill area, and thought that I would share... era is 1890, mountain logging / mining ...

HO and N scale figurines. Any way of making adjustments?
I'm looking at painting my own figurines for HO and N scale. Buy the bag of unpainted figurines for cheap and then paint accordingly. I need to change some arm and leg positions of some to reflect the scene they will be in. Like sitting or arms in the air (volley ball game). what is the best and safest way to achieve this? Heat them with a low temp soldering iron? Hot air gun? Blow dryer? Warm water?
what have you guys done to reposition your people into the positions you need them in?
Suggestions?
